IT'S PERFORMANCE
Thanks for the tips, I have the AU alternator and Bell Housing, and I have a new EF thermostat housing and I will use as it is modified to suit LPG I am considering using the AU temp sensor location.

50MM sounds like a lot to remove from the KFrame, I might look at removing some of the fins from the sump thus reducing the amount of material being removed from the K frame.

I am enroute to melbourne to pick it up and will have a clearer idea tomorrow.

Cheers TW

I believe that the AC compressor bolts up exactly the same as it does with the EF block. Most people are of the opinion that the EF sump wont work on the AU block.
Probably best to do the cam as a seperate job anyway.

Cheer TW.

Cheers man,

I have decided to go with fixing the EF motor as it will come with a 12 month warranty. The AU motor would have been a private purchase and so I can't get get a warranty for it.

Will have to get back to saving my pennies as I want an ITS motor more than anything. Can't wait to start my new job off shore drilling!!

What do you do with the MAP sensor? I would like to retain the AU manifold but there is no outlet for the EF MAP as this sensor is intergral on the AU manifold, is the takeoff point critical for the EF one as I could source vacuum from a different location on the manifold. Do you or anyone else know if the 2 units are interchangeable (wiring aside) as I could also wire up to the new sensor and dump the existing one.

Cheers
Tony Wason

Gday Tony
there should be a point on the inlet manifold to hook it up to.
if not just drill and tap a new one close to the spot where the ef one is.

hi guys i will answer all of the above question that were asked

1, Yes i can do the crossmember out of the car
2, The au bottom end has a smother rev gain withch give more torque
3, Yes 50mm sounds alot but when plated no strength is lost only gained
4, The ef sump definatly does not fit the timming cover and the rear end cap has no groove to accomodate th ef sump gasket as the au has a 1 peice rubber o'ring type gasket which does not seal on a early sump.
5, The cam won't work either
6, The ac compressor no problems
7, There is no gain in using the au manifold the casting sizes are the same on all the internal porting and runners easier to use the ef set up

Thanks Mark,
Very good information.

Drilling the intake might present a problem without removing it, I might plumb into the vacuum a little bit further forward to where the EGR value is connected. Don't know if the will work correctly as it won't exactly be the same vaccum level as the original point. The other way might be to connect up to the AU sensor, does anyone have wiring diagrams for this sensor and expected voltages for the output on both the AU and EF?

Cheers
Tony Wason.

sois au mechanically and strenght wise better then ef motor or is it just refined and allows that little bit more rev pick up

are the bottom ends strong on ef and au or is au much better?

Jobs done!
The AU motor is in and running.
I have a Word document describing my exploits if someone could help me to publish it here for all to see.

Cheers TW.
