I'm just about to Turbo my EF falcon. I have all the bits and pices I need but can any one tell me a good PSI setting to run my wastgate at??? I have a 16PSI spring in it at the moment and I have been told that if I have a bigger PSI spring I can run a lower PSI setting like ( 16PSI spring but I can run 10PSI) is the possible??? I would like to run around the 10 PSI mark can any one tell me wat HP it will be putting out roughly? The car is an ex-cop car but now has a 5speed wif an LSD.

Afaik, it works the other way, so if you want 16psi and have a 10psi spring you can get a boost controller which basically works like a limiting valve that will limit the pressure to the waste gate until it reaches the desired set point on the boost controller. Hence can run more boost if so desired. But i haven't heard of going the other way. The only way i could think of it being possible would be to use the port on the top of the W/G.

oh and Boost controllers are also good as they tend to limit wastegate creep. Thats when the wastegate opens before the desired psi hence bringing max boost on later.

What brand is your waste gate? can't you just get a 10psi spring and a boost controller?

Imo 10psi. If you have a stock bottom end.

Ive heard them blowing as low as 200rwkw but i think 220rwkw the norm. Ive also heard of them taking 250 so yeah um?

Mal wood do a T56 6 speed for the 6's and the 8's. Will be more than capable of the power, but is not a cheap option

Go a JMM Cam, there are tried and proven. Easy to install i have seen a mate fit one. Simple. As for your problems, you may even look into the T56 Mustang 5 speed boxs, again its all upto the $$$ you wanna spend.

Mal Woods gear is highly recommended if you can afford it. I have heard a lot of good things about his stuff. As for your bottom end, you can run as much as 8psi with an intercooler without destroying it. I did for a while. Just monitor for pinging, get yourself a good a/f meter and keep it rich, then you will be ok. That should see you to around 190-220rwkw SAFELY. Providing you dont smash the T5 to bits..

Thats an open statement... Can you be more specific on 'good results' ? Say example 8psi - xxx wkw, 13psi - 200kw etc? Also what other mods are done to engine? or is it standard.

Ok well this is a tuff one as i was smoking the tyres (no traction) on his dyno, with some rims in the boot, 60kg of lead and with two people sitting on the back of the car, and we had it strapped down. So i could only manage 184rwkw on his dyno.
But since then ive upgraded the injectors and retarded the cam another 2deg and am making 207rwkw according to my new g-tech (ss) and that is in forth gear with wind resistance so where looking around 230rwkw on a dyno.

Its a stock EB bottom end just fully rebuilt, with a EL head ported and polished with stock valves and crow turbo valve springs, cressent stage two turbo cam, vernier cam gear, bbm reconfigured to open at 7 psi, 600x300x70 cooler, snort stage 4 manifold, holset turbo, 50mm gate on
8-10psi, 2 1/2 inch dump, 3 inch zorst, turbo smart bov, running a stock ecu. Thats all i can think of at the mo.
