I have a 95 EF GLI 4.0L Sedan. It has a bad vibration that runs right through the car.(U can see the mirrors vibrating). It only vibrates when in gear and u can only notice it when u are idle. Just fitted a new 2 1/2 " exhaust cat back. Vibrated before exhaust was changed(standard 2" system). Slightly worse since.

Lots ofthings you could look at.Could be a missfire, suggest have a look at your leads.Or a leaking inlet manifold gasket.Broken gearbox mount or engine mounts.Loose a/c compressor bolts.See how you go.

Its not a missfire engine is running good. Leads are new. good leads fitted for gas system $130. There was vibration before the leads were replaced. Recently had head redone no change after that either. Will check the other things you mentioned.Cheers

just had all my suspension and steering components replaced at pedders. All but power steering pump and lines. Lowered! looks killa handles heaps better. The dude at Pedders sugested that it could be the idle speed. Can any one tell me what an EF 4.0L (1995) should idle at in gear? (when warm)

Hey mad falcon, you could probably have a broken engine mount. To get that much vibration even through the sterring column.

Ive broken plenty of engine mounts, and its never that bad.. especially cos its an EF (where they just collapse).

Cheers

it could also be the bottom end - the nob that had my fairmont before me must have put a jack on the sump and bent the crank - same issue though - at idle in drive the whole car vibrates as well as the steering - just thought id throw it out there

i would go with box mounts as its happening when in gear. does it stop as soon as you get the revs up a little?
