NO! Dear god! 5200???? Are you kidding me? It'll be getting breathless at 4000ish... Depending on the condition of your auto it might hold on to gear longer then is benficial to your terminal velocity, in which case, lift your right foot slightly to force a shift... 5200??? WTF, seriously...

Not balls, just less weight. And if it's been said once, it's been said a million times, first gear in the Ford auto SUCKS a**. I mean really, with a 3.08 diff, it runs to just over 80. That's just silly.

That bombodore auto 1st gear is a slightly lower ratio than a T5 1st even. They sure seem to run out of puff after around 60 though.
Also 2000rpm is a bit high for a standard converter.

yeah my old xf 3sp auto was the same plant ya foot in drive and she'd pop in to 2nd at 65km then into 3rd at 125km but hold it in 1st till redline and she'd pull 92km and then 2nd wound out to 145km mind you once you got to 210km in 3rd she'd be only doin 4750rpm and be topped out,
just like a bessa brick in a wind tunnel!! |

I owned a series 1 EB 4 speed - a very quick b**ch when operated in third. All the other auto e-series I owned were very lazy on the shifts in comparison. These Commodores seemed a lot snappier in that department. What about these electronic shift kits fellows - could they be an equalising factor?

Doubt it; the shift kit wont change the fact of the 1st gear being VERY tall in gearing.. However it will make for a faster gear change into second, but think about it, its not going to be noticably faster, but if i had the kit id still have it switched on if was in a drag.

not much you can do, as the ECU will wanna kick back down when you're flooring it.
Possibly (this is outta left field), force the auto into limp home mode by pulling the INST_BATT fuse - it'll kill the cluster and speedo signal to the ECU. No you have a fully manualised auto.
