Got a water leak, can't pinpoint the source. It will leak from the front passenger side of the car, but only does it sometimes after it has been parked and is a bit above normal operating temp (A in NORMAL). I suspected a dodgy radiator hose, but there's no leaks there. I have taken the bottom tray off to see where exactly the leak lands, no luck. sometimes if you're driving in slow town traffic you can smell the warm coolant. My next guess would be the radiator. Pretty sure it's not the head gasket as i'm sure many will say, i've got no loss of power, no stains on the sides of the block, and no cloudy oil. Any ideas?

May be the plastic side tank on the radiator beginning to crack but thats a fairly harsh diagnosis.
REally need to sus out exactly where its coming from....

if iknew where it's coming from i'd have the problem fixed!! i put the bonnet up after a quick drive at lunch time, and i could just see a bit of steam coming up from where the snorkel sits. it makes me think more that it is a radiator leak under pressure. but as it only happens once the car has been stopped for a while, you'd think the pressure would drop.

check your heater valve thingy, it just under the manifold on the heater hose, if one side is corroded it can leak from there. mine has started there, i have to replace with a new one as i got 2nd hand 1 d"oh!

Sounds to me like it might be coming out the overflow (radiator cap failing)
When the car stops coolant temp rises because fans stop. The extra temp increases the pressure and blows out the overflow. You can prove this by tying a 300ml clean coke bottle to the overflow tube and seeing if it catches any coolant.

how hard is it to get to... can't say i've looked for that! heater seems to work very well though! yes, it's the middle of summer and the heater works well in the car. i don't need any tassie jokes!!

hehehe didn't htink of those ones thats ok my afl coach is from tassie as well, you have to jack the car up enough for you to side under it's under the inlet manifold

what about the metal heater pipe where it connects to the thermostate housing its has a rubber o ring that goes hard and cracks

Damn, Next time I better read the post more carefully! Sorry about that. 
Left side, check top & bottom thermostat housing, heater hoses & pipe, Heater tap, Top radiator tank etc. Is your coolant still a nice dark green colour? This will help find the leak.

there's no coolant left in it! i know that's bad but i'm not going to put any into it untili find the leak! i'll get some photos of where i thinkit's coming from over the weekend, and i'll check out the other ideas.

Could be a leaking welsh plug but you would have seen a stain on the side of the block.

Thanks heaps guys You can buy a small can of corrosion inhibitor, fairly cheaply <$10 that will give you some colour to help find the leak.

mine was slowly dropping coolant at one stage too, in the same way.
was the passenger side tank of the radiator. had a small crack in it. hard to see, but under pressure it was weeping. something to look for. |

 I had the same thing happen to me, it was the radiator leaking on the passenger side and it ended up blowing the radiator, ended up being a the head gasket was leaking in to the cylinders building up pressure and blowing the radiator. Ok now after two radiators $800 and head needed straitening cylinders ports needed welding $1400. get it fixed now.
