Hey
I am planning on removing my air filter box off my 4.1 EFI XF motor. I was wondering if it will affect the running of the motor cause the electrical in the air box won't be pluged up? Cause if it will causes problems or something i proberly could make up something with my dad mig to put the electrical in to solve it Thx Jason

Why are you getting rid of it? And yes you need to stull run the electronic sensor in the lid, that measures the incoming air to determins engine load and therefore fuel and spark requirements. Pretty sure you can buy adaptors to allow you to conect tubing or a pod to the sensor.

what filter are you gonna run
btw, the AFM thats in the airbox lid is only held on by 4 bolts the engine will run, but not very well...... trust me, not a good idea removing the ECU's ability to find out how much airflow there is so it can decide how much fuel it should be adding......

I want to do somthing like this
So he would be having troubles with the motor running Ive got 3 of these air filters so i can try with one to make a box for it to fit in but if there a simple way to solve this problem that would be great (what do they do for the turbo and supercharged motor cause i see them without the boxes too) Thx

I would assume he is running straight gass which doesn't require the AFR sensor, and the turbo guys generally run aftermarket engine management which again does not require the AFM.
You will have to use an adaptor or fabricate something up but its a lot of work for no gain, in fact a setup like that pictured will cost you power seeing it draws in hot air. |

Arrrr there ya go
The reason im wanting to remove the box it i got a set of Genie carby extractor which its in the way of the the air filter box unless i make my own box and put it where battery was located and run a pipe down behind the front bumper in the gap That should be fine

OK, yeah thats a common problem with fitting carby extractors. As I said, I am sure there is a bolt on adaptor which allows you to connect up 3" pipe or a pod. Grab one of those along with some flexible 3" air intake pipe from somewhere like supercheap and run it down to the pod in front bumper.
