Hey all, needing a new block for the car I just picked up, the one in it is seized.

Was thinking about rebuilding it but probably be a bit expensive. Just wanting to know if there are any differences in the el block comapred to the el, I know they are very similar but I just want to know if the el block is the exact same as the ef one.

Just because I can grab a pretty cheap el one but are there any differences between the two, I will be keeping the coil pack set up etc.

Cheers

did you keep the coil pack set up etc? The crank sensor fit straight in the dizzy hole? also does it have all the holes for bolting on coil pack and all that?

Cheers

Yeah must have had an ef one if it had no coilpacl or crank sensor, or it had been converted to a coil pack set up

No difference in block, if it's a 98 it's possibly a hybrid and has different head/cam set up from the AU.

The ef has a 12 couterweight crankshaft and the el only has an 8 counterweight crankshaft.

Would I be better off just sticking with an ef block then?

Does the el block have space for the coil pack etc to sit and does the crank sensor fit in the hole for the dizzy, im pretty sure it does.

Cheers

Throw the EL block in with the EF coil pack setup. it will run. it will not be any different. all parts between the 2 are interchangable. Plenty of guys running EL blocks in EF's.

I got a rebuilt ED motor in the EF. only thing that was missing on the ED block was knock sensor hole and bracket mounts for BBM. EL motor already has this though.

Oh and CAS will drop straight on the aux shaft no issues.

I have an EL motor in my EF.
There is no issues with swapping the required parts over.

When fitting an ED Engine to an EF, how do you go about fitting the knock sensor? Can u drill and tap the block?
