Hi Guys,
Does anyone know where the BEM (Body Electronics Module) that is mentioned in this article: http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=49 can be found on the car? Cheers, Art.

Thanx mate, that's the one
The ten pin connector is closest to the driver, the lock, unlock, and ground pins are the closest wires on the plug to the driver. C7 Ground 0Volts C8 Not Used C9 Door Unlock Line Ground (0V) to Unlock Doors C10 Door Lock Line Ground (0V) to Lock Doors This quote doesn't seem to be exactly correct. Although the lock line (10) changes state with the lock/unlock status (on = unlocked, off= locked), grounding the pin directly to system ground (7) doesn't lock the doors. Please correct me if I am mistaken somehow. Cheers, Art.

I have also tested the unlock pin (9).
It has the opposite status as pin 10, (on = locked, off=unlocked). Grounding this pin doesn't do anything either. It would appear these pins (at least) are good for monitoring only, and are not inputs. Art.

You need to find a red/yellow wire, and a yellow/black wire - they should be pretty close to each other on one of the connectors. You can then follow these back. Apply an earth to either wire to find which is lock and unlock - they will have opposite polarity in any condition - one will have 12v, while the other will have 0v, and vice versa.
What are you trying to do ????

THey are the lines I'm talking about.
The table suggests you can actualy lock/unlock the car by grounding them, but this isn't the case, you can only determine the lock/unlock status. I don't know exactly what I'm trying to do, but I already have a microcontroller circuit that can turn on all three of my amplifiers and make a very loud sound through a spare channel on one of them. Witht the extra input of lock/unlock status added, it could easily be the start of an alarm. The first step I'm thinking of is an audible indication that the car is locked rather than just the flashing indicators. I'm a programmer of microcontrollers. Art.

the two leads r/y & y/bk need a battery fed back to the bem from the door lock alternatly so the bem knows that the lock status has changed. this is done by a mechanical switch in the front door lock motorsAn earth is out put on the appropriate lead to operate the door lock. If no operation when earthing the r/y or y/bk check that there is power on the yellow lead at c3 on the bem this is common to all 4 door locks. I have the circuit for the EL door lock/smartlock system. I have just put a complete EL dash in my EA and had to sort out a few of these probs.
Hope this helps

@rt wrote: THey are the lines I'm talking about. falconea confirms this above - if you need a trigger input, maybe you could tap into the manual locking switch on the dash (EF/EL), the yellow/black lead from this switch goes to a separate location on the BEM, and if you repeatedly earth this line (what the switch does), it locks and unlocks the doors.

snap0964 is correct, but the battery is still needed on one of the wires (r/y or y/bk) that is provided by the mech switch in the front doorlocks

No worries, at least I got something working as I wanted it to
A circuit of mine flicks a relay that turns on an amplifier, and makes a two tone warble through a speaker connected to a spare channel whenever the lock status changes. Some newer cars do this with their horn as standard. it also knows if it's locking or unlocking of course, and reverses the sound for the unlock status. The same circuit was already delaying turning on my amplifiers a few seconds after the head unit so there's already music at the inputs when they are switched on... there's another input from my stereo, and provision in the new program for this too. Next step would be an alarm... the door switches can be monitored at least. Since there are blue seven segment LED displays at Jaycar now, I might look at a digital speedo with that PWM speedo output... I have the EL Futura, so the speedo output should be available. Cheers, Art.
