Hey guys,
So yesterday I went to unlock my car and it began a loop of unlock/lock, and now it's doing it all the time, though it does eventually stop after awhile, but restarts every time i try to unlock or lock the car by both key and remote. I noticed that the rear drivers door was always unlocked, regardless of if the other doors locked or not, so i pulled the trim off and listened to the locking actuator and sure enough, its perfectly silent while the others are clearly making noise. So my question is...is my locking actuator most likely dead? if so, how do i pull it out? I've had a look but I can't see how to get at any screws holding it onto the door. Also, how much will one of these set me back? Thanks |

yep my au is doing exactly that!
push the remote button and all the door locks start cycling up and down about 4 times! i have noticed my rear passenger door will not lock at all so i imagine that that is my culprit. i have had my door trim off but unless you know what ya looking at or unless something is visibly broken how do ya know what part needs fixing. im just gunna take it to my mechanic and get him to fix the prick!! worse thing is that my engine immobiliser is not working at all! smartlock my a**!!!!! |

Have a read of this documents.php?d=74 It's a lot of work but Ford are going to stop making actuators one day so beat the crowds and do it first or second or third.Cheers Kevman.

Alrighty, so grab a new motor, I can manage that...
I'm guessing im gonna have to drill out the rivets holding the current motor in, so whats gonna be the best way to secure this new one? |

The problem was solved by using actuators Ford released mid EL, and were changed under warranty if the original owner could prove to the dealer the locks were cycling.
The actuators have a 96DA part number. All previous ones have a 94DA or 87DA part number. Also the 96DA actuators are not compatible with previous models, you have to change the lot so they all match up and work correctly. So be wary of what you have and what you grab from the wreckers. If you want a complete set of 96DA ones, I have a set here that are for sale. |

When I did mine I just used 2 6mm x 10 mm bolts and lock nuts to hold the actuators in place .A bit of a pain but gets easier or Phillips screws. The flatter the better so that the door trim doesn't bulge.Kevman.

Yep - replace all 4. The Speed changes in the models - and they need to be mostly in Sync. The two front door ones have switches in them and when they go wrong (or the lock button is blocked) the locks will cycle.

OZBMX wrote: Lets put it this way don't start me on fords central locking. hahahaha.. Thats funny. In nearly 10 years of owning EL's, I never never ever had the locks cycle on me. But then I always had late model EL's with the new lock types.. Nigel wrote: Yep - replace all 4. The Speed changes in the models - and they need to be mostly in Sync. Plus if you look inside the actuators, the contacts that the mechanism runs on are a bit longer bigger. If you look closely you can see why the door locks cycle. The size of the contacts and more so the positioning of the lock in the front door is critical. |
