Is a coolant sensor linked to fans?? Bought the car 2 weeks ago has run like a dream till thursday night missus broke down car over heated.(she works as a community carer averages 100kms a day) Since we bought the car the sensor light has been on on the dash for the coolant sensor but levels were fine. Changed thermostat and car still getting hotter than usual what is normal level and any advice as never worked on a problem like this. Thanks

Hi,
The coolant light is only on the high end models to let you know the level is low. ( the float that senses the level apparently leak and sink giving a wrong reading ) If you look at the resource Tab above, you can find how to test the fans. The fault could be as simple as a bad relay, so start with the fans and make sure they are working. If you sit and rev it at about 2 thousand, the gauge should get a bit over half within 5 minutes and you should be able to hear the fans. If the fans dont run at all, check the fuseable link, if blown it may be a faulty Fan as the cause. Most sit around the middle of the gauge, the ECU control's the fan operation. Regards 96ELGli

Thanks If you are referring to the Low Coolant Level sensor on the header tank the answer is no, it is not linked to the fans. The do tend to fail over time, have a look on e-bay for a replacement sensor or you could try your local auto parts store. The coolant Temp sensor below the thermostat IS linked to the fans (kind of, tells the ECU to switch them on). My advice would be to take it to a radiator place for a once over, if the car overheats you run the risk of blowing the head gasket. So better to get it sorted before the worst case happens. Could just need a good flush and coolant change.

As for 'Normal' temp level, mine on Friday (41 deg in Adelaide) in traffic with the A/C on full blast never went above the 'O' in N.o.r.m.a.l. on the gauge. Usually she'll sit between the 'A' and the 'L' or lower. (EL Cluster, pretty sure the EF's are the same way around)

Thanks Thanks to everyone who replied turned out it was a computer problem reset computer and fans working to cool down engine. |
