I had the same problem with my EL when I had it. The car would cut out with no warning and at times would not start, would just wind over. Turned out to be the ingition relay.

It will be your hall pickup sensor inside the dizzy, it picks up the chopper disk rotation inside the dizzy.

Gregory's manual says if you replace a faulty tfi module the hall pickup sensor should also be replaced.

I have seen a friends car that got a tfi module replaced, 3 weeks later it died again, was the hall sensor pickup.

I'm having a similar problem at the moment, I've replaced the hall sensor as the one on it went open circuit (required a tow :( ), replaced tfi from my spares box, done the coil.

I'm getting error code 211 (erratic pip signal) which is what I had when the hall sensor went, but now its back. I went for a 10km drive tonight and the car cut out 3 times, and after a few cranks it decided to go again as if nothing had happened.

Which relay is the ignition relay under the coolant bottle?

I had that EXACT problem for 6 months in my old EA. It turned out to be the fuel pump relay and/or the ECU relay. I can't remember which one. Because the problem was intermittent, was very hard to diagnose. I'd check those relays...

Does the ignition relay control power to the cluster as well? If that's the case, then it sounds an awful lot like whats happening to my EF...

wot do u mean restrict?

next time its running like s**t try kinking the return fuel line, if it picks up u have a fuel supply prob. just a suggestion, not saying it definalty that.
cheers
Tom

another thought, if its sputtering and carring on and stuff it still could be the fuel pump becase it will run on the residual line pressure for a little bit. but with that said could be electrical aswell. hope it helps
