Hey all,
I had my EL on the Morpowa dyno today in Modbury. My car is a 5 speed futura, with a relatively stock 4.0L, with the only modifications being a cat back 2 1/2" system and an AU XR8 snorkle. Having a read on here and AFF, it seems that figures are usually between 95-105rwkw for such a beast. The guy from Morpowa said about 100 is standard. Imagine the look on my face, when after the first run, the graph displayed 120.6rwkw. The second run improved that by 0.2rwkw, bringing it up to 120.8rwkw. The smile is still stuck on my face. Now is it just my car being a freak, or do the 4.0's make constant power till the rev limiter? having a look at my chart, the power goes up, then stays steady at about 120rwkw for a fair while, then the limiter comes it, the power just doens't drop off at all. Is this normal? I'll post the graph when i get to scan it. Adrian.

That's a good result. I guess one should always take that with a grain of salt though... having said this, ive seen XRfan's car do 124kw and I think it was completely stock... and he wasnt the only car being run so it was a reasonable figure.
105rwkw would be a good estimate for a stock 5 speed (good advantage over the auto guys). What was the a/f like? Would be good to see the graph...

I know dynos aint dynos. Morpowa have been in the game long enough and do some of Capa's dynoing, so I trust there machine within reason.
For a comparison, just before my car went on, there was a stock BA XR8 5 speed, that made 196 and 204rwkw. That sounds about right from what i've read before. The AFR got richer as the power increased. This was discussed afterwards as a source of more power. They said a uni chip fitted and tuned, should see about 15kw gain.

I dunno about that dyno. A student of mine went there with a stock EB. He ran right after a cop car that pulled 110rwkw (dont know what that was doing there) and he pulled 130rwkw. How does a stock EB pull 130rwkw???
It doesnt matter though, as long as they are consistent. I have a g-tech you can borrow if you like. If you do a 0-100 run you should be able to figure out if your dyno number is ballpark or not. Hope it is right though, puts you 10kw ahead of the pack as a starting point.

All dynos will read differently, its just a fact of life. I needed a decent dyno to do back to back runs, to test a few changes that i'm doing over the next few weeks.
Yeah, nice solid starting block, must be a Friday engine More power will be coming im sure. Talking to the guys, it seems a mandrel intake pipe, and pod boxed in with cold air feed, topped off with a uni chip to lean out the AFR. I think i'll start with extractors and a wade cam though
Now i worked out why my power curve doesn't actually 'curve' because it hit the speed limiter before the power dropped off... so MAYBE there was potential for more... And i guess i would of made more power if i wasn't using those 'crappy topgun' plug leads. They must be as crap as everyone says..

At a dyno day here in Sydney on Saturday I saw a guy in an AU pull 127 rwkws with xorst and paccies. Dont kid yourself for the sake of criticism you have got realistic and good numbers...congratulations

Friday is have a few beers at lunch day, and go back to work all cheery and not caring
Anyhow, thats a nice readout, wouldnt complain about that with very mild mods!

that sounds good, my manual el xr6 only made 105kw on the dyno at trade school. should be good to see the results of my recent at the next dyno day.the fords make maximum power at about 5000rpm, and torque just over 3000rpm.

That could be a bit of a problem, because from memory the speed limiter comes in about 4800 in 4th gear. The reasons for the power runs were to compare a few 'things' back to back, so the overall figure isn't important, but i'm still happy with it. More will come, i assure you of that

Is yours a Feb '98 or later EL?
I got a similar surprise at the sydney dyno day back in november, when I pulled 102RWKW / 439NM @ 90KPH, when compared to other ELs, I was a good 7-10KW up on 'em. The late ELs came with a hybrid EL-AU engine that had some improvements.

no mine isn't a hybrid engine at all. I have checked that before. Is a dec 97 model. And wasn't even one of the 20 (or was it 50) that snuck out with XR engines

Yeah thats a damn good result hornet! Should be pretty pleased with that.
Cant wait to get a few things sorted out with my XR so hopefully i can start putting some $$$$ into this stock engine of mine 
IIRC when mine was dyno'd it hit its peak power at approx 104kph and after that it dropped pretty rapidly, which would mabe suggest i have no top end power lol
Also I need to get the rwkw up on my LPG too, i lost over 12kw at the wheels when the XR's on Gas
