Hi, did you use the EL BBM or the EB Log manifold?
Double check you have put the fuel lines on the right way round. This is a common trap that is easy to fall in to. Cheers BenJ

I was sure I had the fuel lines the right way around.... until Troyman mentioned the fuel return is via the fuel regulator. Not so bad when you find many people make the same mistake.
The other problem I had was the distributor being out 180 degrees after fiddling with TFI position too many times. Quite noticable by the backfiring out the throttle body.

Are you getting fuel? If you are check your fuel line as suggested. If all of the things have been checked...could be Smartlock?

You need to get the No.1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke. I pulled out all the spark plugs and had someone jam their thumb in the hole to seal No. 1 cylinder. Rotate the engine (not with the starter motor) and check the position of the distributor rotor. Less effort required that way.
Is the rotor pointing to the No. 1 position on the distributor (which I assume is Start)? If not, partly remove the distributor, turn the distributor shaft 180 degrees and reinstall. Check everything is correctly replaced/tightened and try firing up again. If the rotor is nowhere near No.1, you'll need to use a 5/16 socket and rotate the shaft on the oil pump till it is. I used a 1/4 drive handle because it's short. Well, that's what I did and it worked. The TFI module is supposed to be about on a 60 degree angle to block with log manifold.

a lil off topic but the things ppl are suggesting were what was suggested to me when i couldnt get my EL started and it turned out that the auxilary shaft gear had all the teeth striped off it.... u can take the dizzy out and have a look in the hole to see if thats ur problem maybe?

Gday guys. Im a newby, so please be nice! I have jhust put an EL2 engine into an EB1 and am also experiencing difficulties getting it going. We have used the EL BBM, an EB2 wiring harness because EB1 wont clip into the throttle body and EL2 wont clip into the firewall. We have both computers from the cars and wont fire with either of them. has anyone got any ideas?

You will probably have to lengthen the ICS and TPS plug wires and swap in the EL TPS plug. It should fire with the EB1 ECU in, but it won't run very good. To use the EB11 or EL ecu you need to install a smartlock bypass module, or it won't run at all. And in an EB1 it has a separate TCM (Transmission Control Module) that will also make things twice as hard. It may be better for you give me a call. PM me for my mobile if you want a chat about it. Cheers BenJ

Have you got the smartlock working? eb2 were smartlock, it might wind over but wont fire without it. You will have trouble with pinging with the bbm too.
Hope you can get it sorted. |
