Hello again folks.
My faithful EL has a locked engine. About 4 weeks ago, I lost reverse in the auto trans but kept driving the car as I needed it for work. My intention was to take a couple of days off and replace the trans with another 2nd hand unit. But....before I got the chance, i parked in a shopping centre, and when I went to start the car for the drive home, the engine wouldn't crank over. I thought it was a flattery, but jump starting didn't make any difference. Got it towed to a mechanic thinking it was a jammed starter. They replaced the starter but still the engine wouldn't crank over. They tried manually turning the engine over but only managed half a turn either way before it locked up. They told me it may have something to do the failed trans locking up the motor, but before i go through the exercise of removing the trans, has anybody heard of a trans causing the engine to lock up? The car still coasts in neutral, so I don't see how the trans could effect the motor. The motor was replaced 2 years ago (had 200,000kms on it) which is pretty good for an EL and the engine ran fine before this happened. There's also a lot of oil pouring from between the motor and trans. It's dark in colour but I'm pretty certain it's trans fluid as I've had to top it up 2 weeks before this happened hoping it would cure the loss of reverse issue. The trans was replaced 5 years ago with a EF trans (has dipstick tube) Any advice would be appreciated. |
