Hey forum, anyone in Newcastle will attest to the downpour we had last night, it was something I've only ever seen in Tropical Queensland it was so instense, anywho, drove home in 80 zone at 40 and still couldn't see anyhting but the brake lights of the cars who were smart enough to pull over, got two corners from home and she stopped after crossing a shallow wash over, I'm aware of this problem with my model as it happened once before (in QLD in a monsoonal storm) but cannot remember the reason or whether I should be further concerned?

Question: Can anyone tell me why it conked out and what I could/should do to prevent this or should do today to help it feel better after its bath?

Thanks

Yep... This used to happen to me...
As im the kind of person who actively looks for the biggest puddles in the road and splashes everyone with my monster 18's

But yeah, more to the point, my EL used to do this when i hit puddles with the left hand tyre.
I think you will find it is your ignition coil.
My car worked fine 100% of the time but started to splutter and cough and stall in the rain, worked fine for another 10-12 months before the coil died completely, and then the new one died 4 months later.

Easiest way to get to the coil is to put the car up on stands and get to it from underneath, bolts are tricky but its possible and easier then coming from the top.
You might find it is cracked on 1 or both sides where water/oil can leak in.

YOU ARE RIGHT ON BOTH COUNTS

1. I do recall having coil issues before and I was surprised it took so long to go but it was the first left side puddle i hit. I will spray the buggery out of it with wd40 to disperse water and deter water.

and

2. yeah i have that image as front screen saver on flip phone, jiggles slower but cannot seem to put phone down for sometimes minutes at a time!

If the coil has a few years on it it may be cracked, and once they get water in them they're stuffed.

See if you have spark, if not try another coil

Its running today and purring like a kitten. I will though keep the idea of a dodgy coil in the back of my head for next time!
