My EL Fairmont Ghia I6 uses too much fuel, I think Between 12(highway) and 16(city) Litres per 100km. Those figures are from pretty easy driving too. I replaced the head gasket a little while back so it has a bit more compression (skimmed and AU gasket) but the fuel economy was bad before I did that though.
Plugs are new Leads are new Radiator is new Coolant is new Oil is new Oil filter is new Will put a new fuel filter on but it is still really hot out (7:15) will do that at 8 How can I check the catalytic converter? Anything else it might be?

My EF Ghia gets are 8L/100km so i'd reckon 12 is pritty high aswell. The city driving seems roughly right.
What Rpm is it sitting on a 100? |

If i drive like a grandma i get 12-14L and highway... well im not too sure bout its about 8-12

This is all argumentative...
Just because you get 8 doesn't mean he will, you don't know his driving style, speed he drives, how many hills he climbs etc. The 4L i6 is going to use fuel no matter how you drive, buy an Excel if you want cheap driving. On a lighter note if you think your fuel consuption is higher then average, try a new 02 Sensor, Coolent temp sensor and possibly the MAP sensor as well

I was getting 10.5 on the highway in my EL Fairmont Ghia V8. It had a 3.45 LSD on it. |

Quit Complaining, when i thrash my XR6, i have used in excess of 20L/100km, around town i get around 17L/100km on the highway (including thrashing it up to the speed limit) i get around 9.5L/100km, BTW i have 3.45 diff gears, and yes it is a manual

It is too high. And you should expect better.
I use the same oil type as in the hand book. I make sure the fuel filter and oil filter is done each oil service. Leads and spark plugs in good condition. When I got her in 2000 they were all in a mess and I got 14.6 to 15L per 100km's with it missing badly. Now, I get 11.4L per 100km's with a mixture of city and Hwy driving. And my car purs along on 95 RON. Absolutely loves it. Bit rough on 91, I find 98 unsettles the idle a bit. I found 95 to be the happy medium. |

Ive got new plugs, leads, fuel and oil filters, oil, coolant and radiator so I should be alright in that area. As for the fuel I am on gas also and even going too quickly.

He's said he was taking it easy. Should get much better than 12 on the highway, my EL was around 8.5 on the highway. The BA on LPG gets 11 so 12 on petrol is woeful.

If its being run on gas, 12 on the hwy would be about right i would've thought. On a straight petrol car, you would struggle to get better than 8l/100km. So 12l/100km on gas isn't that bad.
