Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and Australia and have just picked up a 97 EL Fairmont Ghia.

I got it from a garage and seems to be in immaculate condition except for one thing that is bugging me.

Basically the temp gauge needle doesnt go past the bottom line of the dial (below the L). I have driven 30Km this morning and still it wont creep any further. I checked the temp using the oddometer trick after pulling into work this morning and it said 92degress, which I presume is bang on.

My question is should I be worried about the dial, or is the fact that the temp was sitting at 92 degree's enough to say the temperature of the engine is ok.

Would other readers take the car back to where it was bought, which would mean not having wheels for a day, or just swap the thermo themselves.

Cheers
AC

See here for what I referred to as the oddometer trick.

Hi,
Original poster here again.

I've just noticed that the heater only blows cold air aswell. Could this be caused by the same thing thats causing my temp gauge to not pass the bottom line?

Could a new thermo fix all of the above?

I have a new one which I'll install on the w/end so I guess I'll wait and see.

Cheers
