Hi my brother has a 97 EL Falcon that blew the head on and i have had the head welded up but have gone to put it back on and have broken the left timing chain guide.
Does anyone know if it is alright to run it with it being broken or does it have to be replaced?

I assume you mean the one which pokes up into the front of the head. It will run with it broken, but it will be noisy and if left will damage other parts.

Yes it is the one that bolts to the head.
I want to change it but don't know if it will come out without having to pull the timing cover of witch i don't really want to do as the engine is still in the car.

Yeah timing cover off. Its not a hard job, but it is a fairly big job. Pull radiator out, lower sump pan, alternator bracket, etc. etc. Just did mine on Sunday. Kits are cheap, under $100, and all the parts you need are included. You will need a crank pulley remover, cheap as from SCA or wherever.

Ok will probably buy a kit to do it all as it will save the possibility of something else breaking in the future.

Don't have to remove the radiator.
Whenyou buy the timing chain kit make sure you buy some good oil and heat resistant gasket goo to put around the timing case and especially on the top of the timing case. Don't want oil leaks

I already have some gasket goo from when i changed the rocker cover on my xf should work with it but defiantly don't want leaks as i have had enough trouble with the motor already and don't want to put it together to find another problem.
