My EL is a little hesitant and "fluffy" when cold. Its not a gearbox issue - definitely a combustion related thing. Kind of hesitates off the mark when you put your foot down for the first few kays - like something is holding the motor back for a second or two - then it just pops out and goes fine.

Any ideas?

lol, fluffy? never heard of that before.

anyhow, mine does the same thing it is a bit fluffy too (lol) when I first start it, Generally you should let it warm up a bit before u drive it.. Which is common sence, but just try it. Might not be as fluffy :P

Sounds to me like the engine's being bogged down because of a rich mixture. Considering it's when you take off, I'd say it's got something to do the accel enrichment.

An ECU reset might help, followed by the proper calibration steps that are posted in the ECU forum.

lol, fluffy is a great word for it.. Mine also does the same.

Caused by it running too rich ide say as for me petrol does it badly but lpg is fine. Thats kinda the nature of them though, the ECU runs rich until the engine gets to running temp.

Fluffy man, you know... it just fluffilly flufs along... like a connon ball, just fluffier... :s

Most likely cold dude, the cylinder walls need to reach temperature to evaporate the fuel mixture correctly. My EA takes about 5km of normal driving to reach operating temp, but I can notice the power difference.

I dunno, how cold does it get in Perth?

/me doesn't read thread.

That's just fine icicles, scrape them off with a library card, and your car will be smooth again.

Or maybe that's just winter here.

My EF used to do it untill i got the lighs down the street.

since fitting the MSD DIS4 it no longer does it. (just one of the un expected bonuses)

i put it down to the multi spark doing a better job of burning the rich cold run mixture.

still if its realy bad it wouldn't hurt to check over the basics. plugs, leads and so on.

never had that problem on my EL fairmont. Starts first time everytime time, idles sweet and has the same acceleration at first start up.. How many Km's your engine done. Mine is up to 92000km so that probably explains why my car hasn't gone 'fluffy' in the morning..

cheers Luke.
