In typical fashion something has gone wrong with my car at a crtical point....
The car has done about 267,000kms...i do a lot of driving..the engin and gearbox have had a lot of work done to them and the suspension i replaced so its pretty much brandnew mechanically besides a few parts such as my lovely fuel pump. Question...i believe the difference between a 97 and 98 EL falcon fuel pump is rather large. One is a 4 pin connector,..and one is a 2 pin (the 97)...is this true? If so...whats a reasonable price from a wreckers..ive shopped around n it seems the cheapest is $90 and the worst is $140, while a new one is $199. Sedan too btw. I managed to get the silver bracket around it off but theres still that black plastic thing on it...now it unscrews i guess...but frigin hell how? The pump isnt dead yet....it sounds terrible n the idle of the car is irratic due to the fuel not getting through properly all the time but its making do. I'm just worried that with my large numbers of km i do per week it wont be long till it gives up. Any ideas...or anyone got a pump they want to sell? Andrew |

the silver bracket thing are you talking about a hose clamp??
as for the black thing you see how it has little things that stick up on it around the edge... put ya screw driver in there and hammer it twice (should turn a little) go onto nxt one... and keep on going until it unscrews this may take a while... and make sure you reguly when you change it get fresh air... i never been so tipsy before

Don't know how much new ones are from Ford? But you can get higher output pumps that look exactly the same for under $300...

Also change your fuel filter at the same time as it might be contributing to your bad fuel flow problem.
