Hey everyone, i have a few things in mind for my 4L i6; but wouldnt mind some advise
I have a 98 Futura on Impco Gas, new air filter, plugs in good condition, nothing special leads -Looking for better ecocomy, some performance would be nice - I guess a little performance will come with some mods Currently im getting 11L to the 100km's highway driving, i want to improve this, i can do this a few ways: Advance timing on dizzy 1.I know where it is but how do you get to it without pulling out other parts? EL GT Snorkel - 2. Will this make any difference, will i NEED to get a $140 pod filter for full effect? 2a. Is that classed as a mod as far as insurance is concerned? 3. Where can i get a cheaper performance air filter? Shaving head - 4. What is the stock compression on our 4L engines? 5. What is a mild / medium compression ratio that is still safe, for petrol and gas - I want 300,000km's+ 6. What will an AU gasket take the ratio to? 7. EL XR6 Computer, worth while? Can i even do it? I know it has to be an EL comp, but can it be a tickford comp? To stick another cluster into my car: 8. An XR6 Tickford cluster has battery and oil gauges, will these work with my cluster wiring that does not already have this? 9. The dial backing on the speedo has a 'T' tickford symbol, i am able to swap this with my dial backing, to show that i havent been swapping the clusters Any other mods that i can do to improve the economy? Thanks in advance Matt

Oh i have one of those pod filters, still brand new with a magna adaptor
I want to keep the insurance company happy with me if i happen to crash it. If i stick it into the air box, add the EL GT snorkel - would the insurance company mind to much, i should probably just call them huh? Matt

generally you can't get both.
for performance go a small cam so it wont rape your economy. for economy just replace the plugs, leads, filters and make sure it gets tlc

no you cant put a mid series cluster in a futura, unless u wire it, the battery and oil will not work.

xr6 cluster should work as they are only based off a futura. to get the oil pressure working you will need to change the sender.
also most bolt on performance mods (exhaust, intake etc) add performance by making the motor more efficient. this in turn adds economy. a free flowing exhaust will boost power and improve economy. don't waste your money on a pod filter. a panel one will be fine. these engines are not starved for air until you really start to mod them. shaving the head will work well with the gas but it will also work against you with the petrol as it would be quite probably that you would then be forced to need higher octane petrol. not sure if timing can be adjusted like the older cars. even though they run a dizzy they still use a knock sensor which should advance/retard all you need. hope this helps. also 11L/100km on gas is not that bad.

Hahahaha, how many cars that cost $7k or less will do 100km's on the highway for $5 of fuel, gas or petrol Just something to think about, i have some big neo-dimium magnets, anyone know if the magnets will actually have any effect on the fuel itself? More than likely not, but its something to do Probably smarter than spending $14k on a super charger then complaining when you cant afford to run the thing Matt

How would magnets hep fuel economy or performance. i have heard this but was wondering the theory behind it. Personaly i cant see it making any noticeable difference.

Nothing i know of, those magnet things on ebay that you just clip onto your fuel line are supposed to be inline and space out the atoms evenly to make it burn more efficiently.. Which sounds like a lie to me
