Hey guys. just wondering if anybody out there can assist me with a concern i have. We have just installed an EL2 engine and auto box into my old girls EB1. We now have the engine running and driving, with a big thankyou going out to BenJ. We have a Smartlock bypass module so we can use the EL computer, but its not installed yet. Due to the Trans computer being built into the ECU on the ELs, ive been told that if i wish to use this trans, which i do, i have to run a wire from the original trans computer to the new EL ECU. can anybody assist me?

If you are still using the original Transmission Contol Unit (TCU), as far as I know it should run the EL Auto fine. This is provided the Transmission you pulled out was 4 speed auto and not a 3 speed.
If you want to use the EL ECU built in Auto mapping, you will need to extend most of the wires from the TCU plug to the matching pins on the EL ECU plug. Have you tried to drive it like it is? You may need to add a couple of wires and resistors to the auto side of the EL ECU so it thinks it is in neutral etc, much like a manual conversion, but I am not certain of this. Cheers BenJ

thanks guys. i actually have driven the car! its running fairly ordinary, but its drivable. its getting the smartlock bypass module installed tommorow and that should make a world of difference.

The EB's have alot more in common with the EA's than the EBII's, they run a seperate TCM and unfortunately it can make the eecv freak out because it expects to be in control of the transmission and is receiving some data, yet not all data. If I had to do it again, I'd do the manual transmission trick and let the TCM do its thing.

thankyou. i got a report from the auto lecky today and seems that one of the wires from the module is suppose to join up to pin 4 on the ECU plug. and there in no pin 4! its blank. now im stuffed!

Pin 4 will be there in the EL ECU, but not in the EB ECU plug. You need to add an additional pin to the EB ECU plug.

Indeed, the EB1 didn't have smartlock so no ecu pin for smartlock... add the pin by removing the black plastic top from a spare EFI XF plug or EA/EB/ED/EL plug, removing the red insert and then pushing down the plastic tab that is retaining the pin. All you have to do to put the pin in is to do the same steps as above except slide the shiney new length of wire and pin straight into number 4.
