My el gli manuel gets hot in traffic mods are super lows all round pacemakers 2 and a half exhaust when in traffic the temp s rises to around the o an r but drivin around normal or drivin it hard it sits between the a and l i've flushed out the radiator replaced thermostat and radiator cap i know that one of the thermos doesnt work but they dont come on till hot and it never gets hotter than the o. I got a radiator out of an ef fairmont was thinking of pulling out the current one and putting in the ef one i cant think of what else it could be i wanna get it fixed cause i've been to a few t an t recently and found that on busy nights with an hour between runs it is reasonably consistant. Open bonnet to let out hot air and push it up staging lanes etc lets it cool enough but on less busy nights where only 20 mins between runs it gets hotter and just gets slow. Last time i went out 1st run 16.4 and 2 runs later went 16.9 oh the embarrassment on a quiet night i wanna stay consistant any help please ?

Flushing the radiator through the inlet/outlet pipes is mostly a waste of time, you need to remove the end tanks, which is not very hard, and flush through the cores. Buy new gaskets first. Otherwise buy a new three core.

The thermo's come on in stages and if one isn't working that is not very good at all.

Any decent car should rarely if ever go past 1/3 on the guage, and more than 1/2 tells you something is wrong or inadequate.

The std radiators are two core. I reckon they should have been three core from the factory.

On my EB and XG, and probably the other e-series as well and other models, there are heaps of small tabs that you prise open enough to remove the tanks, and then squash back when you're done. Radiator specialists have special tools, but i did the job fine with a particular sized screwdriver to prise the tabs open, and a particular pair of pliers, actually i think they were multi-grip pliers, to close them again.

I didn't get new gaskets so i used black silicone on top of the old gaskets and that has worked fine so far. But do check the price of new gaskets if you decide to do this job.

the front of the radiators isnt blocked up? ef el front ends have a nasty habit of collecting grass seed and s**t. it can be a bit of a pain to unblock as well.
