Hi guys,
In the process of getting around to changing the head gasket on my EL engine and buying the parts. Now I'm at the point where I need to get the VRS Gasket Kit and I believe there are different kits for different models. Now I know some of you are saying, you have a EL so buy the EL type... To cut a long story short, my car is a EF and on the 3rd head gasket I decided to get another engine, which was from a 97 EL, in which I believed to be a hybrid. Now this is where I might have an issue with the gasket kit. On the head it reads: 96DA-6090-AA with a '3' bellow it On the block it has 95DA-6059-AA Now I'm not too sure which VRS Gasket Kit to purchase because if it is a hybrid, are there different gasket sizes that I will need to look at? If anyone is able to help it would be greatly appreciated. Engine: Head Number: Block Number Throttle Body (probably means nothing) Thanks Daniel |

Yep you have the hybrid head, im pretty sure that 95DA number is on the timing cover not the actual block itself.

Thanks. I would just like to know why, not questioning what you are saying would just like to know why.
Its a pain cause I went to Ford today and got the AU MLS gasket today with head bolts thinking I would need to purchase the EL VRS Gasket Kit. Thanks |

the el head gasket is s**t, it will blow sooner than a au mls which is made from metal.
most of the stuff in a vrs kit you dont need, you only need head gasket and bolts

intake and exhaust gaskets, impact socket for the head bolts-wont split, breaker bar,the bigger makes it easy.

So you don't need, exhaust and intake manifold gaskets, thermostat housing to head gasket, rocker cover gasket and a timing case gasket? Daniel, you can try and source each of the gaskets individually as well, however I am not sure how much that would cost...it may be cheaper. Suss it out.

I used silicon for the thermostat , re-used intake, exhaust and rocker cover gasket , put silicon on half moons. Also used silicon for the timing cover. No leaks be fine for 12 months daniel000 wrote: Yeah thanks phong. I have plenty of experience as I have changed a head gasket before

Keen on getting all new stuff with the gaskets.
But my main question is, with the Hybrid engine, do I need AU Gaskets or will the EL VRS Gasket Kit be fine ? |

Most part they will be the same mate. Intake and exhaust, thermostat, rocker cover etc. Deffo get the mls head gasket though. I think the kits come with valve stem seals so they may be different between e/au but if you're not doing them who cares.

Yeah sweet, got the MLS gasket and bolts today, was just confused because with having the Hybrid engine I was not sure if the other EL gaskets that come with the EL kit that need to be changed, whether or not the will fit on the Hybrid engine.
Ill grab the EL VRS Kit tomorrow. Cheers |
