Have a EL falcon and in the last 2mths ive had the ignition coil go twice and i believe its about to go again.
leading up to the coil going, the car begins to run rough, almost like its missing, especially when u put ur foot down. Its now running rough again. Why does this keep happing? I dont know if these symptoms are related but the airbag light keeps coming on and staying on and the reverse lights keep blowing. Anyone have an idea where to start? new coils start to add up |

I have been told that the coil and the dizzy module should be replaced together as a new component will cause the other to fail. I cant vouch for this myself, but it may be something to investigate. Good luck.

use an earth strap to get it away from the motor and dont mount it where it will recieve vibration
they like to crack around the mounts

Simply solution.Replace the pulgs and replace the spark plug leads-faulty leads that look very powdered up will crossfire and earth out under load and cause the ignition coil to fail. This is very common. If the leads are left in the sad state when ever you fit a new coil it wont belong till it fails again due to the faulty leads.
Faulty leads will create a miss fire under load. Also another thing to check is that the thermostat housing to head and thermo stat housing O ring isnt leaking coolant onto the top of the distributor cap and shorting out the rotors cap this will create pitted or corroded terminal points on top of the distributor cap. If the gaskets are leaking i would replace them and also clean out the rotor cap and top of the dizzy with some brakeclean to help evapourate the cooling or water that is left present. I would definently check these things out. See howya go.cheers

at work whenever we get an EL come in, we ALWAYS replace both distributor and coil. even if dizzy is fine, as soon as you put new coil in, the module can cause coil to fail again. so replace both dizzy and coil together.

How does a module in the distributor make a coil fail???I have never heard of that in my time of 8years in the trade and working on many falcons, commodores, nissans,vw,volvos, hondas, mitsubushi's,chryslers and much more other brands.
Also replacing the distributor too make's it a very dear job.The only thing that can really make a ignition coil burn out or become fault is the faulty leads cross firing or earthing out under load putting more stress on the coil thus creating higher resistance and the coil not being able handle the effect of it and thus breaking down.

A MUST for any EL falcon that has a coil failure is to replace Distributor and Coil together.. or the coil can fail again.

could also be a rooted regulator in the alternator causing an overvolts problem. More primary volts = more secondary volts = fail. Check Battery volts when running. If too high there ya go. Would explain your popping globes too.

If you had a problem with your charging system with it over charging, you would burn your computer out or blow it up.
