Hi,
im wondering about a new intake for my EL XR6. ive got a EL GT intake coming my way in the next couple of days but i was looking at a 3" intake pipe. the one im looking at is fully stainless (i think either that or aluminium). i was wondering how you would go about heat sheilding it because i have extractors and they tend to put out a fair bit of heat. is there a tape or spray on device thingy that would aid in keeping the air as cool as possible.

hey mate on the top left there is a button "search"
this has being covered more times than my post count basically the air inside the pipe is moving that fast that any heat in metal of the pipe is unlikely to be trasfered to the incoming air charge!

Get your original factory heat shield and fit that over your pacemakers, that will help to reduce the heat!
And don't even try to tell me it doesn't fit, I've got LPG converter floating about so I definately refited it, I've managed to fit it over both Lukey extractors and Pacey comps. You can get the two top bolts in peice of piss, the bottom one obviously is a no goer as this used to go into the original exhaust manifold. Now, if your still worried about the heat, and you possiably should be as franks theory only makes sense when the cars being driven, when it's just idling, I still believe that there'd be heat soak, well you've got two more options (you could even do both), a. have the piping HPC coated (that fancy heat s**t, I think a company claled JetHot or someone do it, doesn't seem to be cheap but), or b. get that heat wrap stuff you often see wraped around turbo manifolds and that in imports and wrap the section of the intake going over the rocker cover and extractors in that. |

hey guys,
just a couple of things 1. im sorry frank. tried searchin but didnt really find much. obviously you have and thanx. 2. i wanted ideas as to how other people have tackled it 3. the intake i have found has heat coating on inside and outside 4. i understand that because the air will only be in the pipe for s**t all time that it wont really get the chance to heat up 5. just wanna say thanx for the help twr7cx and if the heat coating dont work ill put a heat shield over the pacies ( unfortunatly, they look sweet  )

on that, my opinion is ur digging to deep into it mate, u r not going to notice a difference at all, that heat is a factor in an unshielded pod, but not in ur case mate, spend this time doing something else to the car instead of trying to shield air from heat, then air can take care of itself, its 2 fast for that damn heat

dopesn't matter how quick your car is budy, if your stuck in traffic for 5 to 10 minutes, your intake pipe is still going to heat up heaps! nothing wrong with doing what you can to reduce that, specially considering it will cost 1 third of sweet fa. |

simple. Wrap your headers with high temp. tape. It does wonders in keeping under bonnet temps to a minimum.
Sometimes the simplest things work the best. |
