Hey guys a lot of you have probably seen my boxed pod setup from the Technical Document I made. Anyway I've just noticed EF/ELs with those mandrel bent 3" intake pipes, say they notice a change in performance and induction noise when fitted. I was just wondering if therefore there would be any gain in performance / noise if I was to replace my EF intake pipe with the straight-through EL pipe? Some have said to me the straight pipes actually bring down performance.
Anyone experimented with each + a pod? |

dont bother with the El intake pipe, just get the BA intake setup, it looks bigger than the EL one, and makes a louder induction noise when i fitted it to my EF.

At a FordMods dyno day I attended quite some time ago they dyno'd an EF, then took off the intake piping and dyno'd again, showing that the standard EF intake piping created a 7KW restriction... 7 KW's!!!!
They tested the same car with an EL piping and it showed considerably less restriction if any (cant recall, I think it was about 2-3kw less then with no intake at all) |

Cool, thanks for the replies guys. So a BA intake pipe will swap with my pipe straight over, no modification?

yeah no modification, but i didnt have the pod boxed just exposed in the bay, reason was the BA pipe didnt reach the box. But it would be easy to make some pvc pipe and extend it to the ef box, im sure someone on here has done this before.

It probably wont do anything for you, the moral of my last post is that the EL came out with the most efficient intake piping and is not worth playing with, unless your replacing it with something shiny for looks...
Or something custom designed to be better |

Ah nice, might give it a try depending on how much they cost at the wreckers. Thats one hell of a dirty engine bay!!

You would be lucky to find a measurable difference in performance between EF and EL intake pipes. It is generally agreed upon that the EF is a little better though (think JMM started all that).
I dont trust the 2 vs 7rwkw results posted above at all. Seen way to many cars on the dyno that contradict it.

the EF intake pipe has a venturi like bottle neck just behind the air box that reduces the diameter of the pipe from 80mm to 50mm. Ford put it in there to reduce induction noise.

The narrow section is inside the airbox on the EF's and just at the start of the pipe on later models. The EF pipe itself is wide all the way through
comparing the EF to 3" steel it is hard to see any obvious restriction

This is what i did. I have an el with the stock set up right, now ill attach a picture and show you what i have changed. I have changed the 2 pipes with 80mm pvc, and with the el air box the entre size is 50mm as u may know, but i also have bought an ef air box lid which has an 80mm opening and i cut off the belmouth inside.. So i have 80mm tubing all the way including the air box lid and then i added a el gt snorkel to finish it off. Also i painted the pvc, air box lid and the snorkel gloss black, so the induction pipes will look the same colour.
