Hi everyone,

On the weekend my trusty EL blew it 30 amp engine fuse, leaving me dead in the water. I rang RACV and the mechanic checked everything before discovering the bad fuse but reckons that it is most likely the symptom and not the cause. His multimeter read only 7 amps so I'm guessing something has spiked through it, he twisted the remaining fuse wires to get me home but on the way it of course happened again.

Has anyone heard of this happening in the EF/EL series? Is it likely the fuse was just tired and needed replacing or will I have to get an auto elec to take a look?

I blew my main fuse about a year ago...
Nothing changed or anything had drawn extra current in the car.
Replaced the fuse... all good.... next day blew again.

I found I had a dropped winding on the fuel pump. Sometimes when it stopped the pump would draw 30+ amp to start (if lucky).

Replaced the pump, checked all wires and problem solved.

This was MY problem, May not be yours!

Could be a one off, the fuse was probably as old as the car. If it happens again, i would suggest taking it to an Auto Eleccy, as it could be a whole myriad of little causes like a slightly exposed wire going to earth or a faulty electrical component as stated above.

fordzatmyplace: I hope it's a one-off, I'll buy a fuse and see but it'll be a pain if it dies on me again.

Krytox: I hope it's not the fuel pump or anything else, that costs big bucks considering how much my car is/isn't worth.

I'll go with the one-off theory for now but my hopes are low
