G'day everyone,
I used to post here under a different name, been so long though that I couldn't recover my password because the email attached was ancient Basically a couple of years ago I had the standard problem that most if not all EF's and EL's have around 130,000ks where the head gasket goes due to an engineering fault in the choice of head bolts among other things and leaks coolant everywhere. Well I had that fixed at the time and I'm now up past 180,000ks but I've just found my car leaking like crazy again. Thankfully I reckon it's just a hose but I thought since the history of this car I might post something to get an experienced opinion on the issue. I wouldn't normally post for this sort of thing except I've got coolant leaking onto the road in 3 spots As I emptied around 2 litres of coolant into the reservoir I noticed it didn't filll, then the unmissable sound of coolant flooding my driveway... as you can see, it's not a total secret where most of my coolant is going but it doesn't account for the spots under the right hand side (when standing in front of the car) Here are some undercarriage shots... My guess is of course that I simply have a problem with hoses but can anyone here offer any advice? Regs, Warren |

has the resovior cap been checked (when engine is cold pull up the small overflow hose and put it to your ear, squeese the top radiator hose, should not hear any air of so replace cap.

Theres a large diameter hose underneath the resovour, possibly split, and coolant running along sub frame, which makes it look like it is dripping else where, looking on the engine bay side of the resovour you can see it, replace and you should be right. The E series do head gaskets because the block was cast in sand, and some of this remains in the crossflow radiator, and blocks it, from the factory, if your radiator hasnt been professionally rodded, its probably still there. It just gets worse when people dont look after the cooling system.

thermostat housing, top and bottom hoses on rad, bottom hose on resovoir, heater tap hoses (mine recently split on me too) get a new cap for the sake of it as they tend to f**k up constantly as well

I don't see it being the cap as it was leaking out as he was pouring coolant in (cap off) I'd go with bottom reservoir hose, both radiator hoses, thermostat housings top and bottom, heater hoses, heater tap etc

the radiator is a plastic tank one?
as the radiator gets old it kinda goes off and almost goes like wet cardboard at the top hose spigget. doesn't look like its leeking but it does, and sometimes quite badly. just take the radiator out and get it pressure tested. best bet.

ok I've taken in everyones advice and suggestions.
I checked out radiator cap... here's a pic for your amusement as you can see it was the original But I've checked out all the hoses and fittings yet it still continues to dump all it's coolant except what is in the radiator system itself. I've decided to just take it to my mechanic and get him to take a look now... |

I had the same problem and it was the two hoses across the firewall one time and the ten inch hose on the right of the motor another time at least its probably something to do with rubber... lol

Yeh mine crapped the heater tap hose one week, and the next week it crapped the short hose along the heater pipe... They are a prick to change also. Its worth replacing all the hoses at the one time, shouldnt cost more than $100 for the lot.

yeah been thinking of just replacing the lot and getting it pressure tested etc.. probably not neccesary but you can guess from my user name that I'm sick of buying coolant
