My average is always about 10.6 to 11l per 100. This is mostly round town with the odd squirt.

Hahah. Through the trip comp I installed I get 16L/100K.

All of my driving is stop start and whilst I don't have my foot to the floor or spin the wheels, I don't really take off particularly slowly.

My engine has 120 000 ks on it.

Now that you mention it... I have noticed a very rich fuel smell when I get out of the car in the last couple of weeks (though the L/100k has never been below 16 in the time I've had the trip comp).

I'll run the diag mode on the odo... though I'd assume that I'd get the same L/100 data considering the trip computer is wired to the cluster.

Any suggestions as to what could cause my high fuel consumption (apart from my driving) on a relatively low KMs car that has been serviced regularly and is exhibiting no other problems except:

Ticking noise on start up... goes away when engine is warm (I'm assuming oil is to blame for that one)

Fuel smell strong enough for the missus to notice when she got out of my car in the garage the other day.

Cheers boys.

Has the Oxygen sensor been replaced before? If not, you might want to invest in a new one...that's the only thing I can think of if the car is running fine, just rich.

At its worse, which was about 350km metro, and 100km highway, was about 13L/100km. At it's best, which was only highway...about 9L/100km. 50/50, about 11L/100km

Just hold the odo button down.

Cheers for the tip, mate, it hasn't been replaced before. I'll get onto that asap.

Hmm....copping it stupid in the last week with fuel consumption!

Driving on freeway for 15 minutes followed by about 10 mins at an average speed of 70 kmh and the fuel is being guzzled. My inst avg at 100kms is about 10l/100kms and if I hit 110 it jumps to 12l/100kms.

No other mods than a K&N air filter, standard EL injectors (I guess?) one side stamped 280 150 790 with 669 above the 790, the back stamped 94DA AA.
No's 5 & 6 though seem to be covered around the base of the injector with a sticky black goo as is the inlet manifold directly below it!!!
Could these two be leaky and if so do they leak at the manifold normaly?

Will also check the resistance of the HGO sensor once I know what the spec is...

Had a couple of days when I got into the car where it smelt like petrol but could not find how or why, gas tank part full, totaly full same thing, no fumes from the rear of the wagon either just the front.

I feel an expense coming on!!!
