20w50 is too thick
15w40 is recommended for i6 falcons ea-el. 10w30 for au's I have personally used penzoil, penrite and mobile and would recommend either. stay away from castrol and valvoline, and if u want the best go fully synthetic. Mobile 1 ftw |

Mobile 1 ftw ive found 15W-40 makes my car tick a helluva lot after a high rev session, and also on cold starts. 20W-50 makes em all go away

Mobile 1 ftw I have used both 20w50 and 15w40. Both worked well in my current motor. But my older motor which had done more kilometres, I used 20w50 and it worked much much better then 15w40. Was told, the more k's on the clock, the thicker you should run the oil. phong =P~

Penrite HPR 15 (15W/60);
Semi-synthetic engine oil formulated primarily for use in modern engines that require SAE 15W-40 or 15W-50 grades such as pre 1997 Australian family cars. Used this oil for about 2yrs(4 changes) and i always get 5 litres back, high oil pressure in 40 degree days, idle smooth, revs out to limiter easier, no rocker/lifter noise at all. Best oil money can buy for under $35. Engine has done 140000km. Cheers..

I use 10w40 Penzoil semi-synthetic, works great.

Using a thicker than specification oil causes a decrease in fuel economy doesn't it.
So you pay even more for 20-50w oil which wasn't necessary to begin with. Then pay more for fuel because the engine now uses more because of the added resistance in the engine, caused by running a thicker grade of oil. Not smart if you value a dollar..... |

Not smart if you value a dollar..... like it'd make any difference. i'm a mechanic so listen to me. best way to stop the ticks of a 4L Falcon is to use a genuine Motorcraft oil filter and good quality 20w50 oil in a car with that many kms. i know using a Motorcraft filter sounds silly but there is a very good reason behind it. i will explain if necessary

I only run 15-40w Valvoline. She has 205,000 k's on her, and she is quiet.
I tried the thicker oil once on advice from this forum, it made no difference at all. The only difference was that fuel use went up well over 12L per hundred. Since going back to 15-40w around 3 to 4-years ago, she's still quiet, and fuel economy is back down to 11.2L per 100km's mix of city and highway. But each to their own I say, I certainly don't want to change the opinions of others, as I don't not want anyone coming back saying, I went back to 15-40 and my engine blew up d***head... My opinion is only a view to the other side of the equation. Do what you feel is right, only time will tell the difference. |

It's all about experimenting really and since not all engines are equal internally, would mean each engine runs different with different grades.
Try each and see which is better. I have found that the thinner oil is better for my current motor but my last motor required a thicker one. I'm talking from experience and not as a professional. phong =P~

If you take it to Ford im pretty sure they will put in Castrol 15w40, and i dont think they will want a customers engine blowing up. I reckon it would be fine.
