As the subject says, i have an EL Powered EA Falcon, it went like a shower of metaphorical s**t, but yesterday i thought i'd fix my rocker cover gasket which was leaking like a bottomless bucket, so when i got the cover off i thought i would replace my cam gear which had a noisy lifter on start up, when i took that off i kinda figured i'd put an XR6 cam out of a EF in it, put it all together again... now it has no power, good top end, but has no bottom end... im running the standard fuel and fuel mapping system out of the EA (multi point) and it hasn't got anything near the power it had b4 i changed the cam... can anybody who has done this help out??? it feels like it is running a bit lean... i don't really know much if anything about injection systems, but if it were a carb it wouldn't be a problem.... DAMN INJECTION! :P cheers...

Chris...

if u have only just changed the cam and nothing else, it sounds like your cam timing is out.

well i thought of that... but i don't see how it is possible... the chain and sprocket were tied together the whole time... and it hasn't lost any compression which normally happens when you lose cam timing...

No i don't... i have the standard ecu and fuel system as which is on the ea s-pack... i don't like the BBM as i think it is a woftam, i beat EF/L all them time with the standard EA setup (other than motor) so i don't see how the BBM is a better option... as mine is an EA there will be a lot of d**k around to get the EF/L ecu to work due to the smartlock, which im not prepared to do... this is only my run around car untill i can get my 323 project car up and running....

did u have to do anything with your ignition timing?

I had a EA once where i had to reco the head. When i put it all back together to set the timing, the harmonic balancer had slipped causing the timiing to be retarded. The car should have felt like a rocket, but it was slow and ate fuel. I had to find TDC using screw driver down no1 plug, remarked timing mark and bang was on my way sweet as a nut.

cam timing mark should have been about 3mm above head

no the timing mark on the cam is suppose to be parralell with the top of the head and the 3mm is a percentage allowed for slite veriations.

I have run a el XR6 in a auto ea and had no problems with it at all and now the cam is in my other ea and that goes really well but it is a 5 speed there is not that much differnt between a stock cam and a xr cam so maybe your hoping for more then what you really get ???

Yep, Ford mustn't know what they are doing, and put the BBM on for its good looks.

I personally think the EA ECU can't handle the XR cam. Either that or a vacuum leak.

for the cars they are meant for?

Whats so technically different about the 3.9L as opposed to the 4.0L? why couldnt the 3.9 benefit from both short and long intake runners?
