I too have this problem, today I had the intake off and I checked my vac-line as Snap suggested and found that one of the wiring looms has been rubbing on the vac-line and punctured it (see pic) -- I have replaced the vacline but i dont have a filter on the car at the moment so I cant go and see if this is causing my surge/rough idle. __ will post later.
-- I know you have had your regulator line off and checked that but have a look around/under/over the vaclines for damage, as mine was hidden until I moved some looms. l8r

Hey,
Up until recently, about a month or so, my engine had been idling perfectly after my engine conversion, and good throttle response after i got rid of the ISC, and made a block to adjust the amount of air past the throttle body, so no high revving after a stab of the throttle. I have noticed recently that the purge tank is copping some excess fuel, this seems the cause of some of my rough idling, due to the extra fuel being sucked in. This seems to be when the engine is hot (proper running temp), after a bout 30 secs idling when cold it idles pretty good. My EL XR6 ECU is new, as are the plugs and leads and everything else associated with the ignition system, so i am sure they're not the problem. I am going to disconnect the battery and see if there could be a code stuck in the ECU as posted earlier. See what happens, and i'll let u know. Cheers Daz

Hey Guys,
Didnt disconnect the battery last night, and was going to do it this morning after i got back from the shops, when the car was warm to see what difference it would make. I did, however, pull the plug for the purge canister and guess what, not idling to bad, and the "hunting" as previously described from another user has gone. This was happening at around 2200-2400rpm, with a slight load on the engine. When u boot it it's ok, cause it copping a gutfull of air. Might look into getting a frequency switch to connect the purge canister when the car is at cruising speed, say around 80 kms. Cheers Daz

under the left hand guard, right in front of the wheel......u can miss it, failing that, follow the hoses from the motor near the A/C compressor.
Cheers Daz

have you tried raising your idle on the back of the throttlebody? 1/8th of a turn should fix your problem.
The EL's (maybe other E series too), after driving will idle higher than usual for 10seconds~, which afterwards they drop by a few hundred rpm. I had to adjust mine after the manual transmission was installed as i was running a tricked auto comp. Matt

The Purge Canister is not susposed to be allowing vacume through all the time.
Its possable the solionoid is stuck open. Replace it. |

Ignore that.
The ECU shouldnt keep it open all the time. if you disconnected the wires to it. Or did you take off the pipe and plug the line ? |

Matt I've actually completely disconnected the ISC and upped the idle through the screw on the throttle body and it made no difference. Its definately a miss or something cause i'm almost certain i can feel it blipping whilst i'm travelling along. I ran the codes a while back and it was coming back about the cam sensor and knock sensor. Is it possible that these things would cause it? I think the mechanic said my timing was advanced but he was a bit of a joker and didn't even really know how to put the car into diag mode. |

Was at the Christmas cruise today which was a great day out and was talking about my idle problem which isnt a rev related problem so the ISC has nothing to do with it. It appears to be an ignition problem. I replaced the coil Friday and that wasnt it so now i have a spare. Anyways today i was told that the ignition module could be at fault, now this makes sense as its related to the engine bay temperature. As it gets hotter the missing ilde is worse. I will replace the module this week and let you all know what happens.

looks like the vac line for fuel regulator at the rear of the injector rail.

two inch or so length of vachose off the fuel pressure regulator.. idle and revving is smooth again now.

Hi joolz, What was the outcome? Did you solve the idle issue? |
