|
hey just after abit of help im in the middle of putting an ed xr6 engine into my ed and was wondering what is need for the el serpentine conversion? Am i able to do this without taking the engine back out? any help would be greatly appreciated cheers.

Gidday.
This is a good upgrade, however, can be expensive collecting all the bits you need. And depending on what inlet manifold you use, some parts are different. You need the following EF/EL parts, regardless of inlet manifold choice: Water Pump - Get a new one as it is hard to get a S/hand one to not leak Alternator Power Steering Pump Harmonic Balancer A/C Compressor If you keep the ED Log inlet manifold you will have to source a non XR6 XH Belt Tensioner and Serp Belt, as these came from the factory with the Serpentine setup, but had a Log manifold. You can't use the normal belt tensioner as the belt will foul on the throttle body. If you decide to change to the later BBM (Broad Band Manifold) from the EF/EL, the normal belt tensioner and belt will be fine. You don't need the whole pump, just the pulley for the pump.
The radiator is different too....EA to ED lower water neck is big......EF/EL lower water neck is small. You need an EF/EL/AU water pump, coz they spin backwards.....back of the serpentine belt runs the w/pump......and the fans to cool it. Use an EL balancer.....lighter than EF balancer ( has teeth on it...EL doesn't ). Must use XH belt tensioner and XH belt.

I agree re needing ONLY the pulley, however if you don't have the right tools to get the pulley off and press it on, it is just easier to get a complete pump.

Thanks for the fast reply on that guys. i want to just start collecting all the bits i need as i come across them so thats a big help as for the bbm conversion iv read a bit around the forums on this would i be a better idea to do the bbm conversion as well? what will i gain from this exactly? what would i need in the way of that and what parts then change to do the serpentine conversion? OK for a BBM conversion, you need the following EF/EL parts.
EL ECU BBM Manifold with throttle body and ICS and TPS Metal heater pipe that goes from back water pump, under exhaust manifold, around back of engine and ends under rear of BBM Metal heater pipe from lower thermostat housing Heater hoses EB Manifold wiring loom modded to fit the BBM BBM Vacuum switch solenoid Upper radiator hose Upper thermostat housing Air intake snorkle, box, and piping to throttle body Throttle pedal Hmmm, that seems to be about it. The cheapest way to do all this is to try and buy a complete donor engine/car that still has all the accessories etc on it. The engine itself can be stuffed, just as long as all the other bits are still on it. Cheers BenJ

Im thinking the doner car to much easier then trying to source all the parts and cheeper not to mention im sure there would be a few other goodies that i could use.. Thanks for the info guys let me know if you here of any going cheep in victoria. cheers
