Hi guys,
I decided to replace the engine in my ef xr6 as it needs a rebuild. I picked up an el tickford engine with only 160 thousand k's on it.
I changed the engine bracket ( to hold the coil pack), added the trigger cog to the harmonic balancer, added crank angle sensor, cam position sensor and changed the engine wiring from el to ef.
Old engine and gearbox (manual) out, bolt gearbox up to new engine and put it in.
Rotated crankshaft until cylinder 1 was at TDC and harmonic balancer lined up with timing bar on block.
The car starts and runs but the timing seems to be out still as when I drive it it is very rough. Does anyone have any ideas on what else I need to do to get it running right?
Thanks.

From what you've mentioned it sounds more like it's spark breaking down, how's the plugs and leads ect?

Did you lock the cam sensor before you fitted it?

I have put brand new plugs and leads in it.

I didnt lock the cam position sensor - I just found info on how to do it. So I will try that.
The el block has the locking bolt hole behind the sensor whereas the ef is in front of it. I dont know if this will be an issue...

I have taken out the cam position sensor and locked it and aligned the engine to TDC and put the sensor back in and it runs a bit better but is still rough on acceleration.
Any other ideas???

I hve also tried putting it in self test mode and it revved up and down for a while but still no change. I checked the timing after that and it is still lined up with the cam position sensor.
Any ideas????
