Hey people it's my first post here so just want to say hello, my question is what I would need to change on my fairmont stright 6 to run a Wade 977b cam, a set of extractors and a 2.5" exhaust system? I've read quite a bit about the whole J3 chip and all that but I don't quite understand what actually needs to be done to run this sort of gear.
P.S. if there's any other info you need on the car just ask Thanks. |

welcome to fordmods. if your car is a manual you dont need a j3 yet it is better if you do. i ran mine without one for about 3 months and ran fine except for cold starts. not too sure about an auto,

Yeah she's the auto, what did you feel was different mainly when you changed from stock and how did you get a hold of the cam?
Cheers. |

i did mine bit by bit so nothing was really noticeable. however its got 136kw at the treads at the moment and will be going for a tune on friday so hopefully more. i just took an old cam into wade and they reground it for me. i think the 977b is now a 114 lsa to be more friendly to autos but i would suggest a j3 so you can get the most out of it. im actually thinking of upgrading the 977b to something bigger so mine will be for sale but wont be for quite a while yet. the 977b is abit sluggish down low (under 2500) but pulls all the way to redline. i have a vernier gear on it and advanced it 2 degrees just to bring it on a little bit earlier as i dont NORMALLY drive above 3000.

i'd go exhaust and intake first, get your engine breathing better, then cam. if you get a regrind your going to need an extra set of shims for the hla's. also not too sure if you will need a hi stall for a 977b. others may be able to help you with that.

Welcome mate,
There are heaps of things you can to to get power you should look into the following; - A high flowing head ( porting and polishing etc) - A cam to suit the flow of the head - Vernier Gear - A good free-flowing exhaust - A high flowing intake - Can upgrade ignition - Can upgrade fuel system - J3 or upgraded ECU with dyno tune - ported inlet manifold These are just a few ideas, but they will get the most out of the I6.

Good condition stock fuel and ignition "systems" are more then capable of handling na power I wouldn't bother changing them if yours work fine,

And brockb8 |

And brockb8 Yes it is a difficult achievement, however it is very doable with the right amount of $
