Hey everyone,

Recently put in an AU XR6 VCT engine into my EL falcon (XR6 running gear and ECU, aparantly) and now when the car drives she is stuck in limp home mode.

LHM is engaged all the time now, not just when at operating temperature and i have double checked the trans oil level and all is correct.

The first time she was driven after the engine swap, LHM was not engaged, drove for about 10-15 mins before LMH kicked in.

Does anyone have any ideas? im assuming it is the ECU reacting with the new engine. would a j3 chip make a difference?

Cheers,
Heno

Are you using the EL ECU or the AU one?

Did you swap all the sensors from the EL motor to the AU motor?

Have you done a diagnostic tets to see what error codes you're getting?

lhm??? as in gearbox stuck in 3rd gear???
if so its trans related not so much engine..

check and clean the pins on the round plug that goes to the gearbox first...

also is your speedo working?

She is going into Fraud tomorrow to see what error codes she spits out
. All the sensors found on the EL engine was swaped onto the AU engine. Temp sensor wire was entended and used au knock sensor rewired into EL harness

Ok after a big f*ck around by ford, my el didn't make it onto diagnostics.

How long does it take to plug in the diagnostic tool? I was told about an hour, which I find hard to believe.

Anyway, car was parked in the driveway last night, instead I the garage so she was subjected to the cold, and when I went I take her to ford, she was not in limp home mode. After the car was at running temp for approx 20 mins, I switched her off for 10 and tried again, drove for 5 mins, got stuck at a stop sign for 2 mins and she went back into limp home mode.

Does this provide any clues to anyone? Also how long doesn't take for trans oil to circulate the system? Perhaps when I check trans oil last time it was yet to completely circulate and is now low again?

low oil wont put it into lhm, low oil will just cause it to slip or not drive..

it will more than likely be a electrical fault..

ok so here's where were at.

Decided to disconnect the ecu for an hour and did the tps reset (found it somewhere on fordmods) also check all the connections on the box.

Next morning i had arranged to get her onto the diagnostics tool at falcon specialists in maddington (wrecker in wa) drove her for a good hour and could not get her to go into lhm.

spoke with the guys at falcon specialists and they told me they have had lots of issues with the round plugs on the auto boxes not connecting properly, even to the extent of customers returning gearboxs because they are going into lhm due to poor connections.''

car has been running now for a week without going into lhm, so now time to move onto the next issue.

Currently when the engine is under load, (normal driving) the temp guage sits at approx half way, and drops to 1/4 when at a standstill. is this normal with this type of engine conversion?

only things that changed with the cooling system is the temp guage wiring had to be extended to the rear of the block to reach the au temp sensor, and put in new thermostat with the engine swap. also its worth mentioning that have run engine to running temp several times and thermostat should have opened, and system wont take any more fluid.

I'm having what sounds like the exact LHM issues you had with my au 6

Whenever it gets warm it goes into LHM

I'll have to get under her tomorrow to see if fiddling with those connections might help.

About the temp, Mine usually goes just under half way with load and does drop to around 1/4 with no load and cooling fans operating, so it seems pretty normal to me. It's not exactly a quick change though.
