Ummm.....

Does anyone know what an EL 4.0 Alternator's voltage reading is really supposed to be? I keep hearing different opinions and it seems that i can never get a straight answer.
My charging system reads that it is charging at 13.8 volts. Some people say this is normal. Others sat it is supposed to be cahrging at around 14.2
Can someone tell me what it's really supposed to be? If it is meant to be 13.8, is this bad for the battery as it is not receiving full charge?

Anyone? Help...!

well, it depends on the condition of your battery, of your alternator, and so forth.

Grab a multimeter, measure the voltage before you start the car and after, and while revving. Then post here, and only then can we tell you if its good or bad.

Cheers

The battery is 1 month old. Its an exide evolution 550cca.
The alternator seems fine as i have never had issues with flat batteries.
Multimeter readings before start are normal at around 12.6 or so. On start the voltage drops to just under 12 which is normal. But on idle and even when you rev motor a bit, it still remains at 13.8

Maybe this is normal......i dont know.

well, it ranges from 13.8-14.4, when you think about it thats SFA difference, so I wouldn't be concerned. Its still charging, and thats what counts.

Cheers

13.8V = fine

Over 14.4V will make the electolyte boil off.
