Alright guys and gals...... never had to worry about a fuel pump before so this might be a stupid question. Just recently purchased a 98 El falcon wagon i6 and I have noticed the fuel pump is very noisy. When I tap the tank with a hammer the noise stops. Does this mean a new pump or could it be something as simple as s**t in the tank blocking the pump or crap wire connections? Just quickly too, The handle for the boot door does not return and it gets stuck on open. Did these have a return spring on the handle?

Sounds like your pump is stuffed. Need to get the tank fairly low on fuel before you try and change it as they are low down mount on the side.

Rear tailgate release does have a spring, so maybe yours has come adrift.

Thanks champ. Still having problems with the tranny........ Seems when its cold it runs nice, but when its hot the tranny seems to stick in neutral a bit and then go 1st ( almost like its riding the clutch) and it wont engage 4th. Just took it for a quick spin ( around 5k) and then checked the tranny fluid. Heaps of fluid came out ( about 200ml) and then when I took it for a spin, the tranny worked perfectly. Maybe the fliuid level was too high? The plug was a tight as a nuns nasty so maybe some dodgy mechanic has overfilled it???? Also the fluid was a nice colour with no burnt smell so i hope being overfilled was the problem.

tell me about it! Could you retro fit a dip stick to an ef tranny or would it be easier just to put an earlier model tranny in?
