I have a 1998 EL wagon.
Recently it just stopped revving.
It will start and idle OK but when I put my foot on the accelerator is just shudders and wants to die.
If I lift my foot it will return to idle.
I'm thinking it may be the fuel pump?
The noise it makes when priming seems to have altered a bit

just a few possibilities

start by changing fuel filter

have you checked fuel pressure ~ blocking return line may increase fuel pressure enough to allow acceleration if related to fuel

have you checked ignition timing and coil also check in distributor cap and confirm carbon brush is still present

try another MAP sensor ~rear left firewall iirc google will show what it looks like
