macca2042 wrote: Pretty sure its an au spec head, cam and rocket gear Sorry about this, but.......... ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!! It's ROCKER... there are NO rockets in an internal combustion engine. Nothing personal, but I have seen people refer to 'Rocket covers' and 'rocket gear' far to many times. Yours was just the straw that broke the camels back, that's all.

Have a search for 'hybrid', also try that with tickford_6's username - pretty sure he has it covered in his engine build type threads. Stockstandard might have too.

i did a search before and couldnt find what i wanted, but it was late and had a few.lol. finally found it here http://www.trueblueford.com/ELengine.html
Quote: Introduced in January 1998, the 'hybrid' six (as it was known internal to Fords - far different to the now usual connotation associated with the word 'hybrid' referring to a combined electro/internal combustion engine) was introduced to allow the early conversion of many of the Geelong machine lines to AU specifications. Externally the engines were identical to the earlier EL Falcon engine however featured full AU specification blocks as well as the AU's low inertia valve train. Unfortunately this did not extend to the AU's head, head studs or head gasket so these engines are still subject to head gasket failure as a routine part of ownership. This change did however involve changing the normally parallel valve springs to the newer conical AU items requiring new tools when servicing. which if im reading correctly, means its the el xr6 head with au valvetrain.

And in the case of the EL XR6 heads, they will have 41mm exhaust valves like the AU. The cam timing marks aren't as obvious as the non hybrids.
