Iv got a EA 5spd Spak multipoint. From what iv read it can be done. Coz iv got the BBM manifold installed and i thought it couldnt hurt to try and get a better ecu. But iv herd u get troubles when u fit a smart lock ecu with a non smart lock car. Iv herd u can get smart lock bypass kits or install smart lock itself i was wondering how easy it is and how much does it cost. any help would be appreciated.

its been done a few times.. u will need to run a new engine loom, and probably modify the dash loom... and get around smartlock. Adding EL smartlock would require an entire EL dash loom, which would than need big wiring changes to run EA cluster, switches etc. Alternativly u could fit an EL dash at the same time, seeing as u will need to have the dash out to change the dash loom anyway

You dont need to redo the whole dash

From memory, the ECUs have one wire different from the EA standard. You can then add the BBM and Fan control wires as well.

Instead of retro-fitting smartlock, go to ford (the electronics section) or to the Castlemaine Rod Shops suggested Auto Leccy, and purchase a smartlock bypass for about $330. This replicates the smartlock signal bypassing it completely.

You can also add knock-sensor etc if you want.

sorry for adding my 2 cents, the smartlock module is adaptable to the EA, if you dont want to change the looms be prepared to splice into your current loom. This was a lot HARDER than wiriing the engone bay, but at least the results were more immediate. (The car was of the road for 6 mths, 2 of those trying to fiqure why id didn't want to start.)

getting back on track, what is required are the wiring diagrams, from these just follow the coloured lines and everyhting should be fine.

Again, a smartlock bypass module is available from ford. 3 wires. NO hassles splicing.

If its saving you lots of time, or is just gonna work it might be worth it
