Guys, have been running EL XR6 motor and comp in my EF for a while now. Has always seemed like something isnt quite right. The car has been rewired to suit. The rest of the under bonnet is standard EF GLI gear. Any one have any ideas of where my dramas might be?

More info... Whats it doing???
I would have used EL motor and kept the rest EF as its mainly the coil packs that that are the difference swaped over crank / cam senser .. The EF comp wouldn't care... Seeing that the conversion was mainly ignition ? I'd check that advance isworking ???? Check spout ? It maybe locked at whatever the static timing is set at??? Stab in the dark ... Need more info ....

Its hunting, has been for a long time. feels similar to a head or head gasket problem, all been replaced, no dramas there. every now and then the revs will take a big dive and the car feels like it is going to stall, but it doesnt, picks up the revs again and idles normally. Had about 4 different mechanics and the like look at it, no one can work out why. Because it is all EF, the Coil pack that normally comes with the EL has been changed to a dizzy to suit a EF, however the hunting was occuring before I made the motor and computer change. It has really got me stuffed. I have some days where the car goes like a V8 supercar and other days where it feels like I am driving with the handbrake on.

Check for a vacumn leak somewhere, or a leaky intake manifold or gasket.
Get a spray can of carby clean and spry it around near the intake manifold. If this is the problem you will notice a change in the idle whilst the spray is delivered. My old EL fairy ghia had this problem for ages. Was a real problem with the speed sensitive steering. Got really heavy when the revs dropped right off. Always seemed to happen at the worst times. Round-a-bouts were really s**t! Good luck!

Yeah, seems to happen at lights, round abouts & intersections. Gets very close to stalling then picks up and goes back to normal. This has happened with two different motors and comps in the same car.

is it only at idle??my el xr6 is like that at idle,well i only notice at idle anyway

my car does similar thing,
instead it revs it self at traffic lights, and everyone looks at me thinking i wana drag or something, el xr6 manaul |
