I seriously doubt that. I have had my fair share of cars, engine builds. I would like to see some of your projects. My first turbo car, VL Turbo was putting out approx 400rwhp, reliably, running factory computer and injectors. I started building this car when i was 18. So what do you mean by "cheap and nasty"?? You see, i don't just go and flop out my poor excuse of a wallet, and ignorance like you might. I do my homework. I do things properly, and I shop around. So because I do the work myself, because it is hard to find good professional workshops these days that don't bend you over and give you a better working over than your car, that makes it and my work cheap and nasty? now for starters, ebay: T04E turbo $600 Ebay wastegate $200 Turbo manifold $950 Pipe work, lines, exhaust $1000 Nissan GTR intercooler form a jap wreckers $200 Leaves you $50 for incidentals. Now, stock heads are strong enough and flow well enough to handle alot of boost, and the computer can apparently handle up to 2bar. So pull your head in, because you don't know me, you don't know my kind of work, (ask anyone that knows me how i do things with my car) and you are by far not the BE ALL AND END ALL of mechanical or engine building knowledge. Sorry, your how old? go back to playing with and modifying your Barbie Ferrari or whatever it is. do you honestly think that is all you need? and for the most part we the that $3000 of N/A gear is the fitted price. so you just left yourself $50 for labor. pull ya f**k head out of you a*** |

Tickford6 actually installs turbo's for a living...
Sure you might 'just' be able to scrap together a turbo kit for 3 grand, but it would be far from ideal, and far from reliable. |

You can easily do a turbo 6 for 3 grand. It will be a 1/2 a*** job and wont last long but you can do it.
Stock engines + stock ecu + stock injectors + turbo = bad idea

you really underestimate poeple. there maybe a few on here that have tried and struggled, but i'm sure there are more people out there that have turbo'd their car quite successfully.
don't generalise and don't say it can't be done, just because you can't doesn't mean others can't.

I need to add this, to this turbo setup for $3000 or under, when one discusses mods like this we HAVE to generalise simply because we are talking of what WE (meaning the greater majority of us) are able to buy quite freely to do this modification, ANY of us, its no use saying it can be done for this price, if you cant get the parts, I check ebay myself for various parts, not to mention quite a few other guys in here, and Im sure quite a few guys in here have investigated the costs with various workshops in having a turbo setup installed, if I found a good turbo thats recommended for my engine, I'd be buying it too, but theyre far and few between, NOT only that, but turboing my motor then brings on other things which HAVE to be done to the engine, NOT to mention the rest of the car, Brakes is one, Gearbox or transmission is the other, uni-joints and or tailshaft, not to mention the bottom end of the motor, the car was NOT made to take a turbo, which means you have to modify it to take it, so... the buck doesnt stop at the $3000, the REAL cost of a turbo then increases dramatically, and thats what I mean by doing a job correctly, NOT "cheap an nasty", and I stand behind what I say, correct me if Im wrong guys.... and... by the way Concorde, no offence mate... but I learnt the hard way, I include myself also in this cheap an nasty way , been there done that means just that...I made MY fair share of mistakes, and paid double, sometimes triple, and Im not gonna go down that path again.....

so does the JJM Dev kits come with said parts? I am saying for the price people pay for a JJM Dev kit, bang for your buck and variabilty in upgrades, turbo is the way to go. you can buy a Dev kit that MAY get your engine 146rwkw or it may not cause of the age of the engine, or alternatively you can turbo it, run it at 146rwkw for awhile, get more parts, then you can put abit more boost into it acheiving higher power output. what i'm saying is, that a Dev kit is all you get, turbo kit is highly improvable for alot less money. i never said that bolting on a turbo will get uber power straight up, but sensible boost will gain more power than a JMM kit for the same money.
