Hey guys

my EL XR6 wont start.

It cranks and it sounds like it wants to start but it wont.
when I turn the key to acc, i dont hear the fuel pump whine.

there is also a second problem, I have an oil leak, however I dont know if it is a transmission oil leak, or an engine oil leak.

I changed to fuel pump about 2 months ago and everything seemed to be fine.

since then I changed the oil, oil filter, fuel filter
I also got a shift kit, and i have installed a sound system

any help would be awesome

Check the ctrl lamp 10A fuse isn't blown (do the interior lights work?)--this fuse also powers smartlock.

If ok then I would check the green fuel pump relay located underneath the coolant reservoir, check for corrosion, also check for 12v at the fuel pump wiring plug.

Also check if your getting spark while cranking? TFI module...

Makesure the ign fuse link in the engine bay is ok(just take the black cover off next too the coolant reservoir and have a look)

Just been down that path on an EL ghia, It was the dizzy. Usually coils go first then dizzys. Coils are easy enough to replace, dizzys are quite hard.

yeah the interior lights work just fine.

and i do get a spark when I crank the car

so fuses in the car are fine, and coil, dizzy and TFI are fine.

I'll check the relay, the ignition fuse and see if the pump is getting power or not.

what would that mean if the pump wasnt getting power?

thanks guys

Do you hear the fuel pump whirr when ignition is switched on. If not Fuel pump likely.

you may get spark, but it might be low.

We encountered a EL at work that fired, ran rough and wouldn't start, did the usual, checked spark, replaced dizzy and presto.

yeah when i turn the key to ACC i cant hear the pump whirl.

with the spark thingy, i read somewhere that if you get a yellowish spark then it means that it is not sparking properly, and if you get a blue spark it is sparking as it should.

I get a blue spark from the ignition lead.

nyways I am taking the pump to my mechanic, as he said that it could be the ground connection on the pump that is not properly connected, due to the fact that it is irratic.
