hey guys, im just wondering if the electronic shift kits are actually any good?
i did some reading and found you can change your shifts by one of two ways, Doing it mechanically (changing some stuff in the clutch) or electronically. If so is there a way to turn these things off and on? i dont really want to be snapping gears at 4am on my way to work after just waking up lol. And also where can i get them from? are they easy to DIY? Thanks |

You can get these on ebay. Theres a guy who does a variable one (hiphop 48) if you have any questions ask him. Very helpful bloke. Cheers Shaun.

a shift kit increases shift speed, thats all..
you can get a electronic shiftkit (www.shiftkits.com.au) or you can make one gearbox-suspension-brake-driveline-f4/shift-kit-do-it-yourself-t2378.html?hilit=home%20made%20shift%20kit a mechanical shift kit isnt very popular in falcons, more so on holdens... although people say this is a good thing and can prolong the life of your gear box, ill argue and say its more a fun factor, for the same price you can get a tranny cooler + installed.. my 2c worth.. cheers

I got a stage 2 shift kit from shiftkits.com.au and yeah top quality product, works great. Had it for about 3yrs and goes great. Instructions come with the kit etc, easy to hook up.....
Although since fitting a 6DJA fairmont GHIA(TICKFORD ECU) matched with a XR6 300KPA regulator I don't use it any more. The auto shifts with this ecu are about half way between standard and the shift kit, so it feels really good and smooth.................BTW fairmonts run a 3.23diff ratio where your GLI would be a 3.08 ratio so you might experience different results to me...(Gears will change fairly early).. cheers.............

looking at the install guide on shiftkits.com.au they put the switch and adjuster in the glove box, i dunno bout you guys buy i dont really wanna reach into the glove box to change it and turn it off and on seeing as i usually have a whole lot a junk in there lol. do you think it would be easy to hook the on/off switch above my rear demister button, and have the adjuster in my center console??

The switch comes with a fair bit of cable, I mounted mine just above the ciggy lighter...........

hey thats alright, im not the brightest person when it comes to electronics, id rather pay a bit more and know its going to work properly and a bit more professional.

looks pretty good mate. ill have to have a look around in my car to see if i can do similar thing (as its an EL).
Were the switches easy to mount? any special way of doing that? |
