thanks for enlightning us that the eliminator chip is NOT an Xbox accessory, and the real use is tuning fuel & ignition maps

The symptoms described here are exactly the same as fuel starvation or lean fuel mixtures.

And will continue to.

Terry is a good bloke, but I'm starting to hear WAY too many stories about leaned out motors that have lunched themselves that were tuned there. I'm starting to wonder if their wideband system is setup correctly with the new dyno.

They do good mechanical work, and don't seem to charge too much for it. But at this point I'de be saying sorry guys the chip is not working, money back please. Then take the car straight to Ovaboost and have an EMS8860 fitted and tuned. It very much sounds like its lean with no timing, I might swing by BPT some time and have a looksee, and have a chat to Terry, I'm fairly busy atm tho.

Terry just called...

They took the rocker cover off ...and found that 2 of my 3 chain guides were broken, with the 3rd barely hanging in there ...and the timing chain cover badly worn from the chain flapping around.

They're replacing all 3 guides, resetting tensioner and cam timing ...then getting her back on the dyno for a complete retune with the chip.

My engine rattle will finally be gone ...and hopefully I'll get the tuning result I was hoping for.

Yeah ...I'll chuck up the dyno sheets ...I'm hoping to see a decent improvement all-round.

Yeah, I've always had the rattle ...will be nice to see it gone.

I just wanna get her to a good mechanical starting point, enjoy her driving as she should NA for a little while ...then onto some cosmetic mods and a neat boost set-up ...nothing outrageous, a sweet all-rounder basically.

just read whole thread

wow dude do i feel sorry for you

and where the hell did the good ppl (at BPT is it?) learn how to tune?

use a knock sensor to establish a best timing setting? WAT THE f**k?

power will drop off long before an audible knock will develope in a NA 4l
as fritz said they should be looking for the BMT best minimum timing, in other words take the timing foward until power drops on the dyno then reduce the timing until the best hp is attained

this will hav to be done at numerous load points along the rev range

generaly these motors wil require vast amounts more timing high up in the rev range 4000rpm+ in dev 5 trim, this will also cause sum of the symptoms u are experiencing.. ie the flattening off of the power curve altho im sure the chain issues are to blame as well

my advise to you mate would be find another tuner

I'll talk to BPT about this before they tune tomorrow.
