Hi all,
Just had motor completely rebuilt and replaced dizzy and coil etc. Engine is cutting out with no warning. May restart easily or sometimes takes 1/2 hour before restarting. Not overheating, plenty of fuel in tank, had new pump and filter 8 months ago. Yesterday drove 200KMs without a miss then just stopped dead. Restarted after about 45 minutes and ran ok for about 60 KMs then started runing as rich as. Stopped and had a feed and was all normal when restarted again. Drove home (about 100KMs) all OK. Any ideas as I am totally out of ideas. Car is EA 3.9 CPI totally standard except for electric fans. Thanks in advance, Chris |

i know you said the dizzy has been replaced but it sounds like the dizzy module is over heating and cutting out,,classic sign is the time it takes to restart.

Sounds like the dizzy, but the MAP sensor could be a cause, or a split in the MAP sensor hose.

Hi guys,
I am starting to have the same feeling about the TFI module. Dizzy is a new unit but I have learnt that even new items can be faulty. I have replaced the vaccum hose to the MAP sensor and also swapped that unit with a second hand one. Also swapped the HEGO and ACT sensors as well but no change. I will carry a can of spray freeze with me and try cooling TFI down next time it happens as that sure seems the most likely cause at this point. Seems to fail on hot day when car slows down after a bit of a run. Thanks for replies and still open to any other ideas. Chris |

Hi again,
Motor turns over normally. Have also fitted new battery. Have been over as many plugs in wiring as I can find/reach. Repaired a couple of suspect connections and cleaned some plug/socket assemblies. This is going to send me right round the bend as can't trust car to go any where further than the nearest shops. Can't even stock up on the glorious amber fluid!!!!! Chris |
