Whats every thoughts on flushing the engine with engine flush when doing a oil change, ive been told its good then i have been told its bad. And would it be ok to switch from a mineral oil Castrol GTX Gas 15w 40w to a semi synthetic Penrite HPR Gas 10 10w 50w. The car is a Au1 175,000 kms dual fuel.

I wouldnt do it normally but i did an Engine flush when I went to Amsoil, they make a good flushing agent.
I have had no problems 8 months plus since doing it.

It's not really an additive in the usual sense though! You put it in there for 5 minutes, and then it comes out with the old oil. Personally I use it. And don't worry about what they say about not to be used on engines that have done more than 100,000km's, my donk had done 640,000km's when I put it in and was fine! I also drain my oil out when it's hot, flows out nicer, and nothing better than burning your hand taking the sump plug out... |

If you push the sump plug towards to sump as you unscrew it no oil will come out, then when its full undone you can quickly rip your hand away with the plug in hand! No burning yourself or fishing the plug out of the pan.

i would personally not use any flush, when i changed from hpr15 to motul 15/50, i did the drain when engine was hot and left to drain for few hours, i repeated this after 2-3,000k's, i bit more expensive but did the job beautifully, replaced filter both times as well.

Problem is all engine oils are already full of additives. Only oils that don't have additives are straight mineral oils and olive oil! |

i tighten it with my hand tight, but not too tight or you won't be able to get it off easy at the next oil change!
i've been doin it like that for 5 years and haven't had a problem.
