hey guys. as you can see from my pictures, my rocker cover is red. it was done in the shop, where everything was correctly followed and all work required was done by the mechanic (as/after we were painting the head cover on my AU which is now red).
however - i have a mate who has an AU (4l,6cly forte) and he has done the same, only painted his blue with engine enamel like me, as follows: he took the spark plug leads out unbolted the head cover took it off painted it put it back on bolted it up plugged his spark plug leads back in started fine, looks good, drives the same - HOWEVER i have no idea what the mechanic might have done to my engine before/during/after all of the painting was done. should he be concerned about his head gasket or spark leads/plugs? i am concerned for him. cheers |

mine runs fine.
there's no worries with mine at all. my mate's has been done as well... only he did his at his house, with just him and a mate... his runs fine. we're just wondering, now, if anything should have been taken into consideration (eg. head gasket) reason being is that the mechanic who was working on my car at the time i did my one, was the one who took care of all the mechanical work. just concerned if anything will leak etc. |

should polish the high bits though polishing the lines/intech 4.0 high bits with sanding block some time in the next week. also considering chrome dipping some other parts of engine, covering coolant tank with chrome/silver polished cover, weaved piping throughout etc. comes at a cost when your a full time student with a casual job |

not sure if my gasket was changed or not, or any goo was put anywhere... so with you saying that, i'm now going to consider taking my one off aswell as my mate's one, just to make sure mine is fine. how much will this cost, and where can i get this? |

Spark plug leads should be fine so long as he didn't just yank them out via the cord...if he pulled it by the thicker handle bit...then he should be fine.
If both cars are running fine without problems and there are no oil leaks, then I think it is safe to say that your gaskets are fine on the rocker cover. Also...head gasket shouldn't be affected because it wasn't touched. But if you meant rocker cover gasket...then my former paragraph would have explained it. phong =P~

weren't just yanked out - they were taken out properly, and put back in properly. so i suppose he is fine with that.
might take his head cover off tomorrow and have a bit of a look. he took it off, painted it up, placed it back on and bolted it down - just not sure on whether he took into consideration any seals or anything that might've needed positioning or replacing... tomorrow will tell... or if not, some time in the future (possibly a leak???) will tell |

So long as the rocker cover gasket was put back in the cover grooves and was in usable condition, I reckon he'd be fine. I've done mine numerous amounts of times and no leaks as of yet...but I do use gasket maker on the half moon part on the rear and front of the engine. Don't have to but it's just something I've always done. phong =P~

thanks falkoon and phongus for your help...
i'll have a closer look tomorrow... as for the half moon part... i'll have a geezer at that as well... [ not a fan of the half moon thing... i look at the silver bottom slotting perfectly into the top half which is red and think to myself "if only i had the time and could put the effort into painting the entire thing, it wouldn't look like just the top half has been painted" hahaha ] anyway, thanks heaps guys.
